Purpose
· Secure safe and compliant operations to deliver reliably agreed service and quality levels
· Manage the site and operations in the country, which includes SHE, compliance to legislation, logistics transport and warehousing, local procurement, planning/scheduling, order desk and manufacturing, maintenance, operational excellence and quality management. This scope includes PFR and Intercompany products from other sites.
· Collaborate in global/regional teams and proactively contribute when his/her experience or skills are valuable.
The organisation and job position
· Stahl is a multinational company that provides an extensive range of chemical products and services for treating leather and for coating flexible materials.
· The Job Holder will report to the Cluster Director operations is part of the country organization, headed and operationally lead by the MD of the country.
· Maintain an effective relationship with the business teams and functional teams in Stahl and integrate the stakeholder interests in the strategy of the site.
· The operations teams include members not hierarchically reporting to the Operations manager. The team is operationally managed as one team.
1) Management of site & operations activities
a. Execute an effective leadership towards the safety culture of the organisation in alignment with global standards. Proactively live the slogan “Nothing we do is worth hurting people”
b. Assures safe operations and adequate working conditions for the workers on site and in the operations compliant to relevant legislation and Stahl standards.
c. Assures high quality consistency in the products and a service level matching service level agreements as defined with the business teams.
d. Introduce new products on site in close cooperation with R&D and the business teams.
e. Defines and manages the annual budgets which are agreed with the COO Stahl.
f. Supervises all relevant functions to meet the purpose of the job. This includes as a minimum production on site, site procurement, site & country logistics, CSD, SHE in the country, quality control, operational excellence and planning/scheduling
g. Uses resources efficiently / optimises processes in order to achieve the relevant Stahl defined KPI’s
h. Develops and implements a 3 years site development plan which summarizes the key developments for the site
i. Manage the asset base by adequate maintenance, timely reinvestment and sustained reliable performance within agreed budgets
j. Ensures state of the art technical/technological adequacy of the plant for new products and for higher efficiency
k. Stakeholder management to continue license to operate with relevant stakeholders such as authorities, fire brigade, neighbours, industrial associations
2) Production planning/scheduling, manufacturing and delivery
a. Ensures on time supply in quality, quantity, and time
b. Ensures cost control according to approved capex and flex budget
c. Realize continuous improvement based on operational excellence processes in order to reduce costs and ensure competitive KPI’s
d. Proactively resolves quality issues arising from the production or logistics process
e. Initiate, develop and maintain an integrated supply chain and S&OP process
f. Maintain efficient distribution coordination between the plant and other sources of supply and the different sales centres
3) Investments, financials, projects management and audits
a. Identifies and implements improvement projects in order to achieve ongoing improvements in all dimensions of the objective and with that securing sustainable future for the site and country operations.
b. Responsible for realisation of all investments on site regarding quality, time and costs
c. Ensures management system compliance with the relevant audit standards (e.g. ISO 9001/14001/18001/45001/50001
For Site Managers additional
d. Ensures financial structures (relevant legal matters), HR structures (legal matters) as well as compliance with the relevant audit standards (e.g. ISO 9001/14001/45001/50001
e. Ensure that all general accepted accounting principles (local GAPP and IFRS) are covered and an effective controlling regarding KPI’s are in place
4) People Management & Leadership
a. Stimulating employees in team-building, personal development and commitment to the company’s activities
b. Promoting a good workplace atmosphere
c. Appraising operations employees in their work, proposing salary adjustments, transfers, promotions
d. Maintains proactive and cooperative relationship with the business teams to assure high quality, communication and service level to Stahl customers.
Profile
Training
· College or University degree preferably in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
· Professional training in operational excellence is a pre.
· Knowledge/education of general operations in manufacturing and supply chain management
Experience
· 10 years manufacturing management experience preferably in a Multinational environment with affinity for the chemical industry
· Good track record in management roles in more than one business discipline. The jobholder is expected to be capable of understanding operational, commercial and logistics needs and to lead, ,evaluate and manage people.
· The jobholder must be a strong leader, a proactive person capable of leading a site locally and at the same time satisfy the business or other functions hosted on the site by efficient communication and cooperation. He / She has to be able to work efficiently with virtual teams.
· Experience in managing relevant changes, leading small teams, influencing people and situations in a multifunctional and multicultural environment as well as project management are essential skills
· Broad understanding in key areas of an international business such as sales, operations, finance, supply chain, HR and its implications.
· Effective analytical capability to understand and analyse figures and situations to draw meaningful conclusions and drive actions when necessary.
· Knowing and able to utilize the methods of operational excellence and/ or lean practices
· Good understanding of basic financial concepts and ability to prepare, manage and control a budget and its process.
· In addition to the local language mastering of the English language in writing and spoken communication.
Skills
· Proactive leadership skills in balancing overview, analysis, common sense, people focus and good business practices to take impactful decisions timely.
· Jobholder shall be an excellent communicator both to internal and external stakeholders which includes business partners, colleagues and authorities.
· Must understand the implications of acting in a truly international environment combined with a local organisational production structure and be effective in a global context.
