Introduction

The DNREC Division of Air Quality monitors and regulates emissions to the air. Air monitoring is supported by the Ambient Air Monitoring Program which operates a network of monitoring stations throughout the State. This monitoring network measures pollutants for which national air quality standards have been defined to protect public health, welfare, and the environment. The Ambient Air Monitoring Program is supported by Air Monitoring Quality Assurance Program, which ensures the quality of data produced. Both programs assist in analysis and distribution of the air monitoring data.

Summary Statement

This position will perform regional and local air quality modeling for the Division of Air Quality and in support of the Division of Climate Coastal and Energy. Air quality modeling is required for permitting, and demonstrations of attainment with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. Air quality modeling is also important for climate change planning and projection. It will also require planning and coordination with local, regional and national partners. In addition to modeling, this position will supervise two environmental scientists who perform quality assurance work for the Division of Air Quality's ambient air monitoring network.

Selective Requirement

Selective Requirements must be met in addition to the job requirements. Applicants who do not possess the selective requirement will not be qualified.

  • 3 years experience in using Air Quality Dispersion Modeling systems.

Essential Functions

  • Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
  • Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
  • Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
  • Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
  • Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
  • Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS For Engineer VI

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: 4. Three years experience in engineering project management which includes planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the status of engineering projects.

  • Possession of a valid Delaware Professional Engineering License OR Possession of a valid Professional Engineering license issued by a proper authority of a state, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a province or territory of Canada.
  • Regionally or nationally recognized as a specialist in a specialty or scientific prominence/recognition such as publications in scientific and trade journals.
  • At least five years experience in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below.
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
