What We Offer
The Process Chemist supports Toluene Diisocyanate (includes DNT/TDA2/TDI1/TDI2/Nitric areas) Manufacturing Units at the Baytown site, including routine and non-routine analyses of products, raw materials and process samples, process troubleshooting, process improvement / development activities and other projects. You are responsible for assuring the generation of timely and reliable
analytical results for all products or goods to internal/external customers at low cost. This role also supports process improvement/development projects for Toluene Diisocyanate process areas at the Baytown site.
Major Responsibilities
Ensure safety and health in the laboratory.
Directs technicians regarding routine and non-routine analyses, process troubleshooting, process improvement activities, other projects and implementation of new technology or products to the DNT/TDA2/TDI1/TDI2/Nitric production units and the laboratory.
Initiates and takes part in process improvement investigation and evaluation of established processes. Ensures that approved and recommended changes are satisfactorily implemented.
Supports the evaluation and guidance for the introduction of new products and technology into production facilities. Coordinates all preliminary testing required for new products.
Ensures the technical accuracy for all process work completed by direct reports. This includes work for process improvements, troubleshooting and capital projects.
Ensures the precision, accuracy, and safety of analyses of all products or goods, used, or manufactured with the objective of meeting or exceeding PU divisional standards.
Evaluates and recommends new instrumentation and associated computer and electronic systems for use in the laboratory.
Resolves internal/external customer technical problems with regards to analytical testing.
Utilize Lean 6-sigma methodology to bring solutions to Production challenges.
Actively drive and support DNT/TDA2/TDI1/TDI2/Nitric area sustainability projects.
Supports root cause analysis (RCA) to eradicate process problems.
Take an active role in corporate “waste to product” (W2P) initiative.
What You Offer
Basic Qualifications
Master’s degree in Chemistry and at least 4 years of related experience OR;
Ph.D. in Chemistry and at least 2 years of related experience
The eligibility to apply for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within a reasonable timeframe
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an industrial lab
Knowledge & Skills:
Demonstrated commitment to promoting a safe working environment.
Proven experience in technical chemistry
Broad knowledge of industrial chemical production technologies, with and understanding of related economic factors.
Self-directed and eager to learn, with ability to sharpen insight and deepen understanding of relevant production processes.
Strong leadership abilities, along with excellent interpersonal, communication, and team building skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, develop, and maintain strong, trustful working relationships with Production unit personnel.
Extensive background in analytical techniques/methods for the analysis and characterization of organic compounds.
Ability and willingness to independently recognize problems, effectively troubleshoot abnormal analytical methods and instrument performance, identify solutions, and implement corrective actions.
Track record of working collaboratively and building strong working relationships with colleagues in the international network (e.g., Process research, Technology Center, QC Labs)
Willingness to travel internationally on occasion is required
