Lecturer-Continuing Education

CONTINUING EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR

MANUFACTURING

Consider joining City Colleges of Chicago’s Continuing Education Department as a part-time manufacturing instructor. We are looking for dedicated and personable instructors to teach courses in all areas of manufacturing.  This teaching opportunity can be in-person at our main campuses throughout the city or at our satellite campuses.  There are also online courses and opportunities to work with corporate and government partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

        Teach or develop courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.

        Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.

        Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.

        Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.

        Adhere to City Colleges of Chicago code of ethics, Board rules and policies.

Manufacturing Processes:

Fabrication, assembly, manual machining, CNC machining, welding, casting, forming, extrusion, injection molding, 3D printing, additive manufacturing, laser cutting, turret punch press, brake press, pipe profiler, chemical industry processes, food industry processes

Quality Control:

Inspection, testing, metrology, quality assurance, quality management, Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, Kaizen

Automation and Robotics:

PLC programming, CNC machining, robotic welding, robotic assembly, automated material handling, Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing

Manufacturing Software:

CAD (Computer-Aided Design), CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing), PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems)

Manufacturing Materials:

Metals, plastics, composites, ceramics, alloys, polymers, raw materials, material science

Manufacturing Safety:

OSHA standards, safety training, risk assessment, hazard analysis, industrial hygiene, ergonomics

Manufacturing Management:

Manufacturing Sustainability:

Green manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, environmental impact, waste reduction, energy efficiency, circular economy.

Manufacturing Certifications:

SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers),

APICS (Association for Supply Chain Management),

ASQ (American Society for Quality),

ISA (International Society of Automation),

AWS (American Welding Society),

NIMS (National Institute of Metalworking Skills),

MSSC (Manufacturing Skills Standards Council),

SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance),

NC3 (National Coalition of Certification Centers)

Manufacturing Education:

Vocational training, technical education, hands-on learning, apprenticeships, industry partnerships, workforce development.

Industrial Maintenance:

Machine repair, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, electrical and electronics maintenance, process control, equipment installation and modification.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

        Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering or a related technical field.

-OR-

        Five years of experience in manufacturing, including expertise in one or more of the subject areas listed above.

-OR-

        Journeyman apprenticeship status plus three years’ experience in one or more of the subject areas above.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

        Experience with curriculum development and instructional design.

        Bilingual English and Spanish.
