Distinguished Engineers are expected to lead through technical contribution. About the team: Capital One’s Card Decisioning team is responsible to enable our business to manage risk and drive business value across the customer lifecycle by providing real-time, accurate , secure and AI powered decision-making solutions for customer transactions, fraud detection, alerts, credit inquiries and applications across card, lending and banking products.
In this role, you will work on our Decisioning Platform to provide hands on deep technical expertise . You will act as a bridge between developers and executive management . You will work with other Distinguished Engineers to detail out high level designs to help Software engineers with clarity to develop and engineer the products as envisioned . You will be responsible to help the teams with setting up the best in the industry engineering culture and developer experience . Additionally, you will provide mentorship and strategic guidance to our engineer, product, and leadership groups.

Key responsibilities:
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $274,800 - $313,600 for Distinguished Engineer
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.

Key responsibilities:
- Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for your domain
- Decompose complex problems into practical and operational solutions

- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 10 years of experience as hands on full stack technologist
- At least 7 years of professional experience coding in commonly used languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, etc.
- At least 5 years of experience in software engineering, enterprise architecture, solution architecture or data architecture
- At least 3 years of experience in cloud native technologies (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 10 years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support
- 10 years of experience in designing large scale and resilient applications
- 3 years of experience with solutioning a large scale platform
- Familiarity with Security engineering and architecture, cloud and software-defined networking, site reliability engineering
