Job Description / Summary :
Provide Family Resource Center (FRC) services to patients and families including introduce families to the FRC, help families find information about medical diagnoses, help families find local information, help families navigate the hospital, and assist with using the computers and the internet.
Manages and coordinates the closed-circuit television system including patient education and entertainment. Family Liaison collaborates with hospital departments on family centered care issues to best meet the needs of families.
Essential Functions :
- Work in the Family Resource Center assisting families.
- As Volunteer support allows, meet all in-patient families during daily rounds and provide information to families about resources and services available during hospital stay.
- Collaborate with Volunteer Department by onboarding and training new and returning volunteers.
- Provide ongoing support and training to new and continuing volunteers.
- Collaborate and consult directly with child life specialists and creative art therapists to determine personalized care plans for patients and families.
- Attend daily huddles with CL&CAT department to assess specific needs of patients and families and receive direct referrals.
- Attend CL&CAT meetings to stay up to date with changes and developments with hospital-wide offerings for patients and families.
Additional Responsibilities :
- Receive, organize, and distribute donations.
- Coordinate and implement special events and recognitions for families (e.g., holidays).
- Support social gathering and family networking within center.
- Continually improve and monitor closed circuit television system to best meet needs of patients and families.
- Design and evaluate Relaxation Program of Family Resource Center.
- Represent the Family Resource Center on Palliative Care Committee, Family Advisory Council, and other committees as needed.
- Be key contact in the absence of Patient Advocate to support any concerns or complaints in Main Hospital.
Supervisory / Management Responsibilities : Daily point of contact for Volunteers, Students, and / or Interns assigned; delegating daily projects to volunteers, students, or interns depending on need.
Provide direction to Ronald McDonald House Charities volunteers and team when appropriate.
Communications Required : Ability to listen and work with a diverse set of people in a patient, warm, and sensitive manner.
Decision-Making Required : Determine access and hours to families and visitors based on volunteer support
Problem Solving Required : While meeting with families, assessing, and providing resources and / or services that could support or be helpful to family.
Financial Responsibilities : Retrieve deposited coins in family assigned washing / dryer units in Main Hospital. Collect money and prepare for deposit at Admitting Department.
Prepare deposit slips and bags.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Bilingual required English / Spanish, English / Mandarin, or English / Vietnamese preferred.
Technical Knowledge : Experience with closed circuit televisions and videos, a plus. Comfort with technology including internet and servers.
Microsoft Office proficient.
Minimum Education : High School Diploma or GED required.
Education Notes : Knowledge and / or training in Trauma informed care preferred.
Minimum Experience : Minimum of 3 years experience working with families in a hospital setting
