Position Purpose This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department. This includes directing and supervising staff to provide a full range of accounting support services to the Bank.
Position Responsibilities
- Review staff prepared general ledger reconciliations to :
- Ensure adherence with accounting procedures.
- Understand the nature and materiality of out of balance situations.
- Monitor staff initiated follow up to ensure timely of clearing reconciling items.
- Discuss potential write off of stale items with Controller.
- Monitor daily Federal Reserve Bank (Fed) and Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) account transactions and delegate the recording of the transactions to staff accountants (includes borrowings and payoffs, interest payments, investment security purchases, principal and interest payments, service charges). Monitor the FED and FHLB cash balances and keep controller apprised of liquidity needs.
- Review and backup daily OpenSky settlement transactions and resolve any issues as needed.
- Record CDARS and ICS general ledger entries when applicable.
- Send CDARS and ICS wires when applicable.
- Submit FR2900 weekly
- Review and approve staff general ledger transactions.
- Perform routine general ledger maintenance as needed (e.g. open / close accounts).
- Process bi-monthly payroll wires and ensure the journals are recorded properly.
- Assist Controller with month-end closing process by overseeing staff accountants as well as preparing reconciliations and general ledger entries as needed.
- Assist Controller with regulatory reporting.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the accounts payable, fixed assets, reconciliation, payroll, and investment systems to provide guidance for system upgrades, cross training and resolution of issues.
- Provide assistance to other Bank departments in resolving accounting related issues.
- Work with internal and external auditors on SOX controls and various internal audits.
- Work with external auditors to ensure tax payments are processed timely.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure stock / option related entries are booked timely and accurately.
