This year’s SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition is around the corner, and we are just counting down the days. Held June 17-20 in Chicago, SHRM is known for being the largest conference for HR professionals hoping to learn about key HR topics, network with peers, and explore a hall of over 600 exhibitors.
Salary.com will be exhibiting on #SHRM18’s show floor at booth number 1851. And, with the recent expansion of Salary.com’s CompConnections Community, our vibrant community of over 4,600 HR and compensation professionals, we think that there is no better time – or event – to connect, engage, and share with like-minded HR and compensation professionals.
We are especially looking forward to the show’s 200 concurrent sessions and internationally-renowned speakers, who will provide a comprehensive look at the most cutting-edge HR trends including:
So, what presentations are we most excited about? (Aside from Tuesday night’s Pentatonix concert, of course!)
Check out five of our favorite session topics below:
Wednesday, 6/20 at 11:30 AM
Lori Kleiman, SHRM-SCP, President, HR Topics
The role of an HR professional is changing. Single-person HR departments are sprouting up as SMBs and startups look to cut costs. These days, HR professionals are being expected to take on myriad roles like recruiting, onboarding, training, performance management, payroll, benefits, and conflict resolution. A daunting task! In this session, Lori will give attendees a roadmap to help tackle the hybrid nature of these HR roles.
More resources: We know that being the only HR professional at an SMB can be overwhelming. That’s why Salary.com has developed a solution for HR and compensation professionals at SMBs to make job matching, market pricing, and running reports easy and fast – freeing up time in the day for other important tasks.
Tuesday, 6/19 at 4:00 PM
Sheryl Simmons, Chief Human Resources Officer, Maestro Health
In a results-driven landscape, HR leaders must engage the C-suite by transforming HR into a “data-driven, proactive function that leads business strategy.” In this session, Sheryl will identify ways for HR professionals to effectively communicate at the C-suite level, build relationships, and hone executive communication skills.
Tuesday, 6/19 at 7:00 AM
Nicole Sahin, CEO, Globalization Partners
Whether it’s the attraction of a new, profit-generating customer base, a desire for a global presence in an emerging market, or the availability of skilled workers, many factors are driving today’s businesses’ appetite for overseas success. Nicole’s session will cover topics like international onboarding, management, compensation strategy, and termination.

Monday, 6/18 at 7:00 AM
Elliot Dinkin, President & CEO, Cowden Associates, Inc.
Today’s workplace is historically the most diverse with respect to age, including Baby Boomers, Gen-Xers, Millennials, and Gen-Yers. Determining compensation – base pay, incentives, retirement, and PTO – is harder than ever because the needs of each generation vary. In this session, Elliot will teach HR professionals how to align various generational views of benefits while creating total compensation offerings that will help to attract, retain, motivate, and challenge employees.
