Use Personal Branding to Get Hired and Stand Out In a Crowd

by Salary.com Staff - Original publish date: October 23, 2015

So you've got a job interview. The only problem is hundreds of other people are going for the same position. So how do you stand out?

William Arruda says the answer is personal branding.

Arruda, a personal branding expert and author of Career Distinction: Stand Out By Building Your Brand, is this week's guest on Salary Talk, and tells Aaron and Wendy the fastest way to separate yourself from the pack is to figure out who you are, what you're good at and maximize your strengths. While most people think of branding as creating a fake image, Arruda says the key to personal branding is "permission to be yourself" and authenticity.

It's not enough to tell people your job title and expect that to be enough to get you noticed, Arruda says. If you stop treating yourself like a replaceable commodity and start thinking about what makes you who you are, soon the hiring managers will see the same thing.

Arruda gives out great tips such as why it's vital to Google yourself, how to manage and control the information about yourself that's currently online and why getting hired is also about what you do in the real world and not just online.

If you're tired of blending into the background and want to know how to stand out to get what you want, this podcast is must-listen material.
