Waste Water Treatment Technician jobs in West Virginia

Waste Water Treatment Technician ensures that pumps, conveyors, blowers, chlorinators, vacuum equipment and other waste water treatment equipment are functioning properly. Monitors equipment for potential failures and may make minor repairs or adjustments as needed. Being a Waste Water Treatment Technician collects water samples for chemical analysis. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Additionally, Waste Water Treatment Technician typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Waste Water Treatment Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     Primary Role

    Controls and maintains treatment plant machines, pumps, and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and industrial use. Control treatment plant operations and produce potable water for residential, commercial and industrial use.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Starts agitators to mix chemicals and allow impurities to settle to bottom of tank.
    • May perform periodic inspections and observe mechanical electrical, instrumentation devices in operation and check for abnormal conditions.
    • Repairs and lubricates machines.
    • Dumps or controls feeds specified amounts of chemical, such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.
    • Monitors panelboard
    • Records data such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity and water pressure.
    • May utilize telemetry systems to monitor water tank levels and water pressure and adjust booster pumps to maximize system effectiveness in delivery of treated water
    • Utilizes electrical and instrumentation measuring instruments such as volt meter , ohmmeter, telemetry calibrator, pressure calibrator etc.
    • Dismantles devices to gain access to internal parts to adjust ,remove, or replace.

    Experience/Education

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • Experience with SCADA system
    • Ability to perform routine maintenance on SCADA controlled equipment
    • Basic computer skills
    • Successfully complete and pass company provided training/safety courses

    Certifications and Licenses

    • West Virginia state Class III or IV Water Operator License is required.
    • Valid active, state's driver license and ability to pass motor vehicle background

    Work Environment

    • Frequently works in outside weather conditions

    Hours/Schedule

    • Full-time
    • Day shift (8am-4pm) and night shift (12am-8am); Two days on night shift, three days on day shift
    • On-call responsibility as needed
