Transportation Director directs, develops, and implements overall operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Develops and directs operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Director monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to forecast and meet capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Director oversees the acquisition and oversight of transportation providers. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. Purpose Statement:
The job of Assistant Director of Transportation was established for the purpose/s of assisting the Director of
Transportation in daily administration of student transportation services. The position involves supervision of all daily
activities such as; overseeing assigned personnel; providing information to others; human resource functions, school bus
routing, student management and scheduling work assignments within established timeframes and standards.
This job reports to Director of Transportation
Essential Functions:
* Assesses incidents, complaints and/or accidents for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
* Conducts regular inspections for the purpose of ensuring work quality, performance and production, and assuring that staff performance is meeting established standards and expectations.
* Coordinates with district personnel for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
* Implements assigned activities and/or projects for the purpose of delivering services in compliance with established guidelines.
* Maintains personnel records and other mandated information which is required for the purpose of meeting regulatory requirements.
* Monitors fund balances of assigned programs and related financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
* Performs functions of a school bus driver, if needed for the purpose of meeting District transportation service needs.
* Performs personnel administrative functions (e.g. hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, providing professional development opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and ensuring department/program outcomes are achieved.
* Plans and participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
* Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, procedures, manuals, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
* Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions to the director for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the district's goals and objectives.
* Responds to emergencies including after-hours situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns.
* Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. staff, parents, students, public agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction.
* Supervises department personnel, Including hiring/termination recommendations, planning / scheduling / coordinating activities, training, advising, consulting, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that the department functions in a safe and efficient manner.
Other Functions:
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Yearly Physical Exam
Minimum of eight hours of school bus operation in-service annually
Ongoing random drug and alcohol testing
Maintain an acceptable motor vehicle operator record
