Traffic Supervisor supervises employees who make deliveries to and from specified locations. Oversees transportation activities including route assignments, route delivery, and account processing. DUTIES:
Supervises and assists with the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices in accordance with the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Responsible for collecting, reviewing, and maintaining data associated with the Road Department, including traffic and accident data.
Identifies traffic control device needs, equipment, and material to accomplish the work required to provide a safe roadway efficiently and effectively.
Supervises the operations and staff assigned to the Sign Shop.
Utilizes computer and related software to assist with the design and creation of signs.
Supervises the collection of traffic data.
Prepares traffic studies with the goal of minimizing accidents and maximizing public traffic operation.
Supervises and reviews the collection of accident information including pictures, videos, diagrams, and notes; reports liability issues, traffic problems, and accident trends.
Provides traffic control information and procedures to the public and officials; resolves requests for traffic control devices in a professional and courteous manner.
Collects speed data and implements traffic orders related to speed limits.
Provides support for the Garage Foremen in regard to right of ways and other road information.
Operates cutter and other equipment in relation to sign fabrication.
Erects and repairs road signs.
Utilizes an aerial bucket on a sign truck to perform basic maintenance on overheard traffic signals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in Engineering or related field and two years of progressively more responsibility at a company or government agency working in the area of traffic or data collection;
OR
High diploma or equivalent and four years of progressively more responsibility at a company or government agency working in the area of traffic or data collection.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout the course of employment.
The physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds is essential to the successful completion of job duties.
Must be able to distinguish the color of signs.
Will be required to become familiar with the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for the proper placement of barricades and signage for road and lane closures needed for the protection of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Work is performed in a typical office environment with some work performed outside on a project site.
May be exposed to extreme temperatures.
Duties may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety boots/shoes, hardhat, safety vest, etc.
