Job Title: Consumer Lending Specialist – Centralized Lending Department
Reports To: Credit Services Manager

Position Summary: Meets member’s financial needs by providing exceptional, efficient service over the phone and/or electronically on the full range of consumer loan products. Promotes and cross sells all credit union products and services to members. Performs all duties in compliance with OECU policies and procedures and Federal and State rules and regulations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Relating to Consumer Lending:
- Interviews loan applicants and completes applications with members over the phone and/or electronically.
- Speaks with members throughout the loan process to gather all necessary background information to make a sound decision.
- Processes loan applications by preparing credit reports, income analysis, loan to values, collateral valuations and inspections. Calculates debt-to-income ratios on loan applicants, estimates monthly obligations, and determines member’s ability to repay debt. Structure loans appropriately within policy to balance the associated risk. Submit loans for final decision.
- When a loan is approved, disburses funds and secures collateral when necessary.
- When a loan is denied, explains reasons for denial in a professional, courteous manner. Works with members to provide recommendations or alternative options to secure a loan in the future.
- Performs loan closings for consumer loans. When an in-person closing is needed, coordinates loan closings for consumer loans, according to location and employee availability.
- Attends Loan Committee and presents loan requests as needed.
- Helps members set up Auto Pay, ACH, or payroll deduction if desired.
- Follows up on delinquent loan accounts and other issues that may arise.
- Maintains orderly files on each account with complete and accurate details of all correspondence.
- Promotes Loan Protection products based on member’s needs.
- Develops relationships with members and other outside contacts.
Principal Member Service Duties and Responsibilities:
- Answers incoming calls and determines appropriate action. Provides service requested or transfers to a specific individual to better assist the member.
- Assists members with inquiries and/or problems – researches and resolves whenever possible.
- Performs transactions on accounts and loan modifications as requested by members.
- Provides account information and when appropriate, encourages electronic access to such information, such as OECU Digital Banking Products and ITM’s. Gives direction to members to enroll in such services.
- Communicates to members in a professional, courteous manner.
- Learns and keeps up to date on all OECU products and services.
- Educates members on products, services, fees and policies; promotes and cross-sells OECU products and services based on member’s needs
- Displays a commitment to giving members the highest quality service. Promotes member service to all employees.
- Maintains orderly files on work with complete and accurate details of all correspondence.
- Safeguards member confidentiality.
- Any other duties assigned by supervisor.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Commits to OECU’s mission, vision, and core values and model of Service Excellence. Lives and displays these values in all aspects of work and personal life.
- Keeps current in field by reading published information and attending authorized seminars and conferences. Occasional travel may be required for training or loan closings.
- Participates in training sessions and online courses as needed.
- Participates in regularly scheduled departmental meetings and coaching sessions.
- Gets involved in professional and/or community activities to make a contribution to local community/profession and to be visible in the community.
- Represents the department on committees that may be formed and/or at various OECU events.
- Works on assigned Saturdays throughout the year.
- Other job-related duties may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 1 year minimum lending experience with a Finance Company or Financial Institution
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Excellent communication, customer service and relationship building skills.
- Sound decision making and reasoning skills.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to operate general office equipment.
- Related financial background or call center experience is preferred but not required.
Work Relationships and Scope: Reports directly to the Credit Services Manager. This position works closely with other Member Contact Agents and interacts regularly with a range of other OECU employees, members and nonmembers. Frequent access to confidential member information.
Working Conditions: Work is performed largely in a fast-paced office environment with minimal chance for personal injury and moderate noise level. There may be occasions when the work environment is stressful. Work hours will normally be from Monday through Friday and may change depending on our needs or due to special projects, deadlines and other concerns. Physical requirements include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Some walking, bending, stooping, and lifting of light materials is required. Frequent mental and visual concentration required for computer usage. Other equipment that may be used includes copy machine, calculator, computer, and other office and financial institution equipment.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
