    Location:                 In-Field: Yuba City, CA.

    Location Status:     Work will be primarily performed at a designated field worksite location based out of a central Race Communications worksite. Occasional travel to and work from other Race offices or other off-site locations will be required.

    Summary:

    The Drop Technician focuses on the installation, maintenance, and repair of the last-mile connectivity infrastructure, often referred to as the "drop." You will play a crucial role in ensuring that telecom services, including internet, phone, and television, are delivered effectively to residential and business customers. Drop Technicians are responsible for installing and terminating fiber optic, connecting them to customer premises, and ensuring proper signal quality. You will troubleshoot connectivity issues, diagnose, and rectify problems promptly, and maintain accurate records of their work. With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to customer satisfaction, Drop Technicians contribute to reliable and high-quality telecom services, ultimately enhancing connectivity experiences for end-users.


    This individual should be able to communicate and work effectively with external service representatives and internal team members who possess a wide variety of backgrounds, personalities, and communication skills. This individual should be able to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and evolving environment while maintaining a productive professional demeanor. This individual must be capable of working independently, as well as collaboratively with other Race team members across teams and levels of our organization.

     

    Qualifications and Experience:

     

    • Eligibility for US Employment without sponsorship
    • Minimum of 18 years of age
    • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
    • A valid California driver's license, subject to successful verification through a DMV check, is mandatory 
    • Minimum of three years’ of experience with outside plant/fiber optics
    • Proficient understanding of utility markings
    • Proven understanding and ability to read and interpret fiber network design maps, splice plans, and MOPs
    • Proven knowledge of distribution operations, construction, and maintenance
    • Experience in fiber optic splicing/termination experience a plus
    • Ability to work overtime, nights and weekends as required
    • The ability to effectively communicate in English, including speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension, as necessary for effective job performance and workplace communication
    • Proficiency in Spanish Language a plus

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    Fiber Optic Cable Installation and Maintenance:

    • Performs placement of aerial and underground fiber optic cable on customer premises
    • Performs installations and replacements of aerial and underground fiber drop cable
    • Performs termination of fiber drop cable
    • Performs installation of exterior DMARC Clam Shell
    • Performs installations and repairs of underground conduit

     

    Safety and Equipment Operation:

    • Safely utilizes hand tools and equipment including wrenches, drills, ladders, lanyards, saws, lashers, climbing hooks, and more in a safe manner
    • Operates mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks, excavators, and trenchers safely and effectively
    • Executes assigned tasks safely and effectively, demonstrating proficiency in all weather conditions, within drop buckets, at elevated heights, and within confined spaces

     

    Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance:

    • Conducts pre-operation and post-operation inspections of Race vehicles and equipment to ensure readiness for assigned tasks
    • Maintains a clean driving record in accordance with the requirements of the current fleet insurance provider

    Travel and Working Conditions:

    • Travels to various service locations throughout California and neighboring areas, regardless of weather conditions, to fulfill job responsibilities
    • Spends a significant portion of each workday in a vehicle, both outdoors and indoors, visiting Race clients' businesses or residences

    Customer Support:

    • Provides exceptional customer service during on-site visits, addressing customer inquiries and concerns professionally and courteously 

    Safety Awareness and Compliance:

    • Observes hazards and reports any concerns or accidents to a supervisor or safety professional; participates in the investigation process as needed
    • Understands, completes, and signs off all pre-job safety planning tools at the start and end of the shift; completes all required safety-related paperwork
    • Understands and responds appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, smell of smoke, fumes, odors, different colored warning tags, warning sirens)

     

    Vehicle Maintenance and Travel:

    • Maintains vehicle/equipment pre-op/post-op to be prepared to perform required duties
    • Maintains a clean driving record as defined by the current fleet insurance underwriter
    • Spends a significant portion of the workday traveling in a vehicle visiting various locations and spending time both indoors and outdoors including businesses and/or residents depending on the nature of the job 
    • Overtime, nights, and weekends may be required


    Other duties as necessary may include but are not limited to:

    • Successfully complete assigned training and examinations, as well as participate in ongoing performance and development reviews, and goal setting
    • Be available to participate in internal or external meetings, special functions, and professional development opportunities
    • Cross-train and share knowledge with other team members
    • Support routine tasks
    • Maintain a professional appearance, hygiene, and demeanor
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

    All new employees will participate in the mandatory 'Speedway to Success' (Speedway) orientation at one our offices located in either Tehachapi, Yuba City, Chico, or South San Francisco, CA. The duration of the Speedway program spans from 1-3 weeks, depending on the position. During Speedway the schedule will vary; you may not work full 8 hour days and there may be off days. Applicants further than 50 miles from these training locations will be provided with necessary travel accommodations as part of the onboarding process.
