  • Lili’uokalani Center (LC): Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new LC will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT’s signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy. Currently under construction, LC is set to open in Spring of 2025. Job Purpose: The Director, Technical Services at Liliʻuokalani Center is responsible for oversight, maintenance, and overall operations of the center’s performance, theater, and other technical spaces and elements. These responsibilities include lighting, sound, set, and technical integrations and applications throughout the building. Additionally, the Technical Director will be responsible for maintaining ongoing operational knowledge of the building’s performance infrastructure and for training appropriate teammates in operations as needed. Lili’uokalani Center will host internal programming and performances and a full calendar of visiting artists and performers throughout the community. The Technical Director will work collaboratively with other Lili’uokalani Center (LC) and Lili’uokalani Trust (LT) teammates, working closely with the IT department, operations, artistic curation, and ‘Olino Pathways teams to ensure high quality productions and overall maintenance of these state-of-the-art spaces. Essential Responsibilities: Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of LC performance spaces and general technical elements, including lighting, sound, communications equipment, and other A/V equipment Support LC teammates, visiting artists, and others in the planning and execution of all LC events and productions Set and maintain standards for safe working practices, equipment use, and responsible work habits In collaboration with IT and Facilities teams, oversee ongoing maintenance of equipment and technical facilities Maintain inventory and facilitate preventative maintenance on all equipment Serve as technical liaison for all visiting performers and artists, ensuring smooth productions Advise on lighting, sound, and/or set design, technical specifications, and usage of technical equipment required for any performance Oversee training and support on technical operations for teammates and youth as programmatically appropriate Ensure deep integration of youth participant learning opportunities across all operational strands Identify, hire, and oversee appropriate teammates as needed Work collaboratively with IT, operations team, and LC teammates to advise on appropriate equipment and use of equipment to meet programmatic needs Create and manage budgets and schedules as appropriate and necessary In collaboration with LC teammates, ensure that programming emphasizes a connection to the broader world balanced with deep understanding of Native Hawaiian culture, highlighting opportunities for learning and advancement for participants while also strengthening ties to community Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends as appropriate, ensuring that community initiatives and programmatic strategies are aligned with current needs and environment Work collaboratively with program leadership to ensure appropriate staffing and supervision of all program spaces Provide program coverage as necessary Provide ongoing support and guidance for program teammates Other duties: Participate in program planning, budget development, revision, and evaluation Provide transportation for organization related business, such as driving staff, beneficiaries and/or families to assigned destinations Participate in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development Contribute to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improves team and organization results Qualifications: BA in related field preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required Strong content knowledge in the workings of technical theater General knowledge of performing arts and sensitivity to the needs of artists Working knowledge of the following areas: audio and sound reinforcement, construction and set design, lighting design, stage rigging, stage management and/or production management, clear understanding of professional standards of stage safety Capable of competently operating state-of-the-art technology Experience in youth work and comfort in youth focused environments Valid driver’s license, clean traffic abstract TB clearance Job Competencies: Collaboration: Ability to interact effectively with youth, community partners, and multi-disciplinary teams. While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position.
