GENERAL FUNCTION
The Legal Research Assistant will be assigned responsibilities involving legal research work, investigating facts and preparing documents to provide technical legal assistance to all Attorneys within Legal Division of the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS
The functions performed by employees in this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
· Performs administrative and secretarial support for attorneys; composes and prepares various legal documents, correspondence, and forms.
· Researches legal data; prepares rough drafts and/or final forms of briefs and arguments.
· Conducts field investigations to ensure accuracy of data and facts.
· Locates and assembles legal material for use in docketing of cases.
· Assists attorneys in the preparation and filing of court actions.
· Answers inquiries concerning legal issues from the public and agency personnel.
· Develops and maintains files on research resources; maintains law library.
· Screens phone calls and receives visitors; processes mail and payments received; provides information or refers requestor to appropriate official; disposes of routine matters.
· Assists in projects as assigned.

LEVEL DESCRIPTOR
The Legal Research Assistant job family consists of only one level and incumbent employees will be responsible for performing all functions associated with the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience requirements consist of completion of eighteen semester hours from an accredited school of law; or completion of an American Bar Association approved legal research assistant program; or completion of a bachelor's degree in legal studies.
PREFERENCE STATEMENT
Preference may be given to applicants who have at least 2 years of experience as a legal secretary.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This position may require occasional travel. Applicants must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to perform all job-related travel. Possession and maintenance of a valid Oklahoma State Driver’s License is also required.
Core work hours for the Tulsa office of the Oklahoma Tax Commission are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This schedule may require minor flexibility based on the needs of the agency.
Telework may be required based on the needs of the agency, division, and section. If applicable, applicant must be willing and able to work BOTH on-site and telework at an off-site location, generally in the applicant’s home. Applicant must have a secure internet connection and a dedicated telephone (landline) or smart phone device during scheduled working hours.
