Supply Chain Director directs overall supply chain operations, including purchasing, inventory, selection of vendors, and distribution of finished goods. Being a Supply Chain Director negotiates with vendors to obtain optimal contracts and pricing. Utilizes data monitoring and analytics to evaluate past performance and trends and forecast inventory and distribution requirements. Additionally, Supply Chain Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Supply Chain Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     General Description Of The Job Class

    The Senior Director of Supply Chain Operations reports to the AVP of Supply Chain Site Operations and logistics along with entity leadership. This position is directly responsible for ensuring the success of; laundry and linen services, logistics and inventory management. The senior director has overall responsibility for the Supply Chain function and is accountable for internal customer service, delivery, quality, and cost control. This role is integral to Supply Chain and logistics transformation initiatives, governance efforts, KPIs/metrics, and all policies and procedures. The senior director is also accountable for the strategic planning and oversight of all department activities, the planning and implementation of budgets, and for working closely with functional managers by providing regular guidance and general direction to ensure goals are met or exceeded. The Supply Chain Senior Director regularly deals with difficult, serious and abstract issues within the department and cross-functionally, and is responsible for making key decisions that will impact both operational and organizational success.

    Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

    Strategic Planning

    Assesses the healthcare environment for emerging industry trends that will influence supply chain services as well as at an individual department or service line level.

    Identifies opportunities to leverage supply chain expertise to improve the quality of service provided in order to enhance patient and staff experience while improving financial performance.

    Focusing on strategies of the organization develops supply chain strategies by drawing from national best practices, analytics, personal expertise, and creativity, processes that deliver high value based on innovative solutions.

    Establish a set of performance metrics for entities and supply-intensive departments that measure productivity and customer satisfaction. These metrics should include but not be limited to the following: elimination of duplicative inventories, reduction in official inventories, minimization of inventory write-offs, improved customer satisfaction, etc.

    Leadership Provides leadership oversight and direction to Supply Chain Management to design operational and financial objectives that consistently meet the mission and goals of the organization.

    Responsible for oversight of the development of supply chain associates in order to effectively and efficiently support services being provided.

    Develop training and mentoring program for staff who support supply chain functions and build core expertise onsite at the entity level.

    Leads by example creating an environment that fosters Duke Health mission, vision, values and the Standards of Behavior and Conduct; ensuring associates are connected to how they contribute to the mission of quality patient care and cost management of Duke Health.

    Actively clearing paths and addressing issues and barriers for departmental leaders and teams to ensure project, program and operational success.

    Ensuring proper governance is in place to support the department and escalates issues for leadership attention.

    Engaging teams on benchmarking best practices.

    Leading departmental efforts to establish annual operating plans that supports Supply Chain and Logistics??? strategic plan and entity operations; ensures operating plan is achieved and RACI models are in place and updated.

    Financial Management Collaborates with finance for the budget development for Supply Chain site operations.

    Has overall responsibility for productivity standards of supply chain site operations and logistics, assuring that action plans are developed and implemented to improve unfavorable variances, or that identified exceptions are documented and presented for approval of the ongoing variance acceptance.

    Ensuring there are orchestrated efforts to align process with Purchasing and Accounts Payable to create and continuously improve integrated Procure-to-Pay processes.

    Service Optimization Provides executive leadership for Supply Chain site operations and logistics.

    Ensures that technology and needed tools to do the job are available for use by supply chain associates and that supply chain associates are adequately trained.

    Performance Improvement As a member of key committees, this position has a responsibility to provide input and assist in performance improvement initiatives that improve services provided.

    Reviews all areas of supply chain management, identifying areas for operational and financial improvements, and using internal and external resources as necessary, develops and implements performance improvement plans.

    Utilizes resources such as colleagues at other organizations, professional organization affiliations, and industry information to identify trends and opportunities for performance improvement efforts.

    Utilizes processes such as Six-Sigma Lean Management processes to identify and implement process improvement initiatives for supply chain.

    Risk Management: Identifies potential sources of supply chain risk and implements appropriate actions or strategies to mitigate vulnerabilities and bolsters supply chain.

    Talent Management Champions the implementation of leading practices for hiring, reward and recognition, performance review, professional development, succession planning, engagement, & corrective action.

    Team Coordination and Collaboration Facilitates positive relationships and communications between departments and key stakeholders, through various means, such as conducting and attending meetings, rounding, having one-to-one communications, and generally being visible and accessible to leadership, customers and stakeholders.

    Evaluate and continuously improve service delivery through data collection, planning and implementation to meet organizational needs.

    Demonstrates strong independent judgement and analytical skills to recommend improvements/changes in process.

    Considers/explores new and creative options to further improve areas of accountability in keeping with strategies and goals.

    Required Qualifications At This Level

    Education

    Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare, or a related field. Preferred degree in logistics.

    Experience

    Seven years of progressive experience in logistics, supply chain, or healthcare. Two of the Seven years of experience must be in supply chain/logistics and Two of the Seven years of experience must be in a management capacity.

    Knowledge of healthcare supply chain principles and industry best practices. Strong analytical abilities and research skills. Demonstrated leadership skills including cross-functional relationship building, team facilitation, coaching and mentoring, performance management, and positive reinforcement. Knowledge of federal and state regulatory agencies. Superior knowledge of supply chain principles required; logistics and warehouse background preferred. Previous experience working on projects and issues that significantly impact the overall success of an organization is strongly preferred. Superior communication and presentation skills. Superior planning and organizational skills. A demonstrated excellence of problem-solving skills. Must possess effective decision-making skills and analytical ability. Keen knowledge of how changes in any specific operational metric impact overall performance. Strong negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to drive results through a matrix structure is required. Proven ability to communicate and present to all levels of the organization. Must have experience in generating statistical analysis and be capable of extensive spreadsheet analysis Intermediate computer skills including the MS Office suite of programs. Strong ability to analyze complex situations and develop/recommend solutions. Knowledge of supply chain tools, manufacturing, and supply chain issues.
