Description
EXPERIENCE:
- Computer proficiency and word processing experience.
- Ability to operate office machines (scanners, copiers, etc.).
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE:
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
- Must have taken a medical terminology class.
- Must be able to multitask.
- Must conduct self in a professional manner.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to operate office machines.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
- Must be in good health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- May be required to lift and move office equipment, furniture, supplies, etc.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during work hours.
- Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in well-lit/ventilated office areas.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is willing to work beyond normal working hours and on other occasions when necessary.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assembles and analyzes outpatient and inpatient medical records according to HIM policy. This includes charges, dictation, all ancillary reports, and completion of chart review for deficiencies.
- Completes birth certificates.
- Completes record requests in a timely manner.
- Locates and signs out medical records when requested.
- Files and scans outpatient medical records.
- Intakes and processes durable power of attorney forms and living wills.
- Answers Business Office phone as needed.
- Works conscientiously and efficiently.
- Is concerned about overtime and does not exceed time allowed for lunch or other breaks.
- Assists other Health Information staff when requested by supervisor.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT:
- Attends and participates in in-service educational classes and mandatory hospital meetings.
- Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, etc., as approved.
PATIENT/RESIDENT RIGHTS FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident care information to assure patient/resident rights are protected.
PERSONNEL FUNCTIONS:
1. Reports all incidents/accidents as established by department policies
