Social Work Manager plans and implements programs to meet the social and emotional needs of patients and patients' families in a health care setting. Develops plans for patient care after release from treatment. Being a Social Work Manager provides social services to patients/clients and their families. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, patients and their families to assess patient social needs and monitor progress of medical treatment. Additionally, Social Work Manager coordinates planning for post-discharge care. Supervises professional staff. Prepares departmental budgets and reports. Requires a master's degree of Social Work. Typically reports to a director. The Social Work Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Typically, coordinates Social Security program matters with a substantial number of large employers, colleges, institutions, and other governmental agencies. Participates in significant community activities.
Qualifications
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Such experience must have involved the development, examination, investigation, adjudication, or authorization of claims for retirement, survivors insurance, disability insurance, pension programs, health insurance, income maintenance, or related programs; or administration or other experience in the analysis, development, or review of a retirement or survivors insurance, disability insurance, health insurance, income maintenance and pension, or related programs; or experience that provided a broad knowledge of the function or subject area of the position to be filled. This experience must demonstrate ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, to exercise tact, ingenuity and resourcefulness in the development of facts and information, and to work well with others. Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants for promotion must have 52 weeks at GS-12. Position to be filled under the provisions of the Management Officials Promotion Plan. The best-qualified list for this vacancy may be used to fill the same or similar positions in a component(s) under the same Deputy Commissioner. Additional selections may be made within 6 months of the date the best qualified list is issued. Applications for noncompetitive consideration will be accepted from SSA employees in the area of consideration who are currently serving under the following types of appointments: Schedule A, Reg. 213.3102 (U) appointments for individuals with disabilities; and time limited appointments for veterans with a compensable service-connected disability of 30% or more. LOCALITY PAY: Salary will be set in accordance with locality pay provisions. Locality pay for this office is 33.26%. Candidates currently receiving a higher locality pay than the office applied for are advised that should they be selected, they will lose entitlement to the higher locality pay. OTHER NOTES: Selected employee is subject to the completion of a 1-year probationary period for a supervisory position unless the employee served in such a position before August 11, 1979, or has completed one. This is not a career ladder position; GS-13 is the full performance level. This position is eligible for telework as determined by agency policy. Relocation expenses will not be paid.
