Our work includes providing abortion funding through practical support, community advocacy to protect abortion access, and communications work within the scope of reproductive health, rights, and justice framework. A commitment and understanding of reproductive rights, health, and justice alongside all its intersectional issues is imperative to this work.

    Job Summary: The Public Relations Specialist is the key staff person for bringing media coverage to the organization, elevating its visibility, fostering brand awareness, and mobilizing supporters to act.

    This is a part-time hybrid position 20/hours per week (minimum of 7 hours per week in person) paid hourly at $37 – $41 per hour depending on experience, with a flexible work schedule including some remote work options. Some nontraditional work hours including evenings and weekends, especially when the NM Legislature is in session and active participation in Zoom meetings will be required.     Primary Responsibilities:

    Press and Media Outreach.

    • Develop press releases, messaging documents, and media kits.
    • Support staff, faith leaders, and volunteers in writing op-eds, and letters to the editor.
    • Drafts written media responses and talking points alongside the Director of Communications.
    • Pitch to national and local media outlets.
    • Maintain and update media list and respond to reporter inquiries.
    • Prepare and brief spokespeople, including staff, board members, faith leaders, and volunteers.
    • Coordinates media interviews.
    • Conduct outreach to media contacts and journalists reporting on reproductive justice, including birth control, abortion, and access to care.
    • Monitor media coverage, track media mentions, and report on media outreach efforts.

    Digital Media

    • Create and manage content for blog posts.

    Team/Staff Support

    • Assists in developing caller story-sharing program with the practical support team and the Director of Communications.
    • Provides support in the planning and execution of press conferences and other public-facing events.

    Community Engagement:

    • Engage in on-going professional development and training.
    • Participate in weekly staff meetings and other opportunities to engage with staff and volunteers.
    • Collaborates with team in committee meetings.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or other related field; extensive work experience as a change agent, innovator, creator in abortion care, or other social justice work (pregnancy health, immigration justice, police or prison abolition, environmental justice, language justice, disability justice, etc) in lieu of degree.
    • Fluency in English is required.
    • Fluency in Spanish is desired and rewarded.
    • Can work independently as well as collaboratively.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to write in different styles for various audiences.
    • Strong organizational skills - can manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and details.
    • Ability to move quickly with rapid response press work.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, work well under pressure, and adhere to deadlines while balancing multiple projects.
    • Commitment to creating content that utilizes lenses of intersectionality, accessibility, non-gendered language, etc.
    • Have experience using: Microsoft office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); Website/blog management (SquareSpace).
    • Must live in or near Albuquerque, NM.
    • Must have a reliable professional vehicle.
