Radiology Director directs and coordinates activities of a radiology or diagnostic imaging department in a hospital or other medical facility. Reviews work schedules and assigns duties to workers to maintain patient flow and achieve production goals. Being a Radiology Director oversees staff in operation of imaging equipment, such as x-ray machine, fluoroscope, CT scanner, or MRI equipment. Evaluates accuracy and quality of images and provides technical assistance to staff. Additionally, Radiology Director demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and procedures to staff. Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with regulatory requirements. Develops and implements plans, policies, and procedures regarding operations and staffing and, the purchasing of radiology supplies. May require an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Radiology Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Radiology Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Job Summary:

    Responsible to plan, organize, develop, implement, evaluate and direct the overall operation of the Radiology Department in accordance with federal, state and local standards. Coordinates performance improvement initiatives and quality improvement. Responsible for activities to include staff management, revenue cycle monitoring, equipment evaluation, survey readiness, PACS and RIS maintenance, and customer satisfaction. Develops Radiology operating and capital budget and is responsible for managing the department within budgetary constraints.

     

    Key Job Responsibilities:

    • Directs and coordinates department activities to achieve goals of patient safety, evidence-based practice, employee/provider engagement, and patient satisfaction.
    • Monitors patient care delivery, identifies problems, and implements solutions while ensuring compliance with organizational guidelines.
    • Drives performance improvement by identifying areas for enhancement, setting measurements, and overseeing projects related to clinical products/services.
    • Provides oversight for quality assurance programs, regulatory compliance, and policy administration.
    • Reviews department progress, analyzes data, and develops strategic operational plans for staffing and fiscal management.
    • Manages fiscal planning, evaluates business climate, and recommends adjustments to meet financial goals.
    • Ensures educational needs are addressed and reviews occurrence reports.
    • Participates in community activities and promotes departmental presence.
    • Collaborates and communicates effectively across the organization, reporting critical data to senior staff and fostering relationships with peers, providers, and employees.
    • Integrates healthcare trends to forecast departmental and institutional needs.
    • Recruits and retains talented employees, striving for acceptable turnover rates.

     

    Qualifications / Skills/ Experience:

    • An Associate’s Degree and graduate of an American Medical Association Council of medical education program for Radiologic Technology. Passed the Registry Examination or its equivalency given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
    • Specific working knowledge of department management
    • regarding policies, procedures and department philosophy by having previous experience in Radiology
    • BLS and ARRT certified.

    Cottage Hospital is proud to feature state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment to provide the best images with the lowest risk. All of our images are read and interpreted by a board certified, subspecialty trained radiologist from Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Our department is staffed 24/7 by trained technologists registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

    Our Diagnostic Imaging at Cottage Hospital is comprised of several modalities to include:

    • X-ray (Radiography),
    • Computed Tomography (CT),
    • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI),
    • Ultrasound,
