Psychologist - Ph.D evaluates patients for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, and determines the appropriate course of treatment for the patient. Being a Psychologist - Ph.D uses talk therapy to treat patient illness or distress, cannot prescribe medication. Requires a PhD in clinical psychology. Additionally, Psychologist - Ph.D requires a valid state license to practice. Typically reports to a medical director. The Psychologist - Ph.D works autonomously. Goals are generally communicated in "solution" or project goal terms. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge.     This position is part of the VBA MDE (Veterans Benefits Administration Medical Disabilities Examinations) program.

    Details of the Psychologist opening:

    • Anticipated start date: ASAP
    • Anticipated duration of assignment: 26 weeks
    • Anticipated schedule: Full Time, 5 days per week

    Daily Range of Responsibilities of the Psychologist:

    • Conduct assessments that help the VA answer questions about the Veterans’ current health
    • Common reasons for assessment: PTSD, depression, anxiety and eating disorders
    • While exam submission does have to be completed online, no typing is necessary while the Veteran is present in the room
    • Time is provided throughout the day for dictation so as not to disrupt the flow of the patient interview

    Qualifications for the Psychologist:

    • Graduated from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program
    • Psychology – PhD or PsyD with licensure in good standing for State of practice
    • Current Independent Licensure in State of Practice
    • Current CPR
    • Preferred experience assessing Veterans
