Police Records Clerk maintains the records filing system and/or database used to manage, access, and preserve electronic and paper records of criminal justice activities. Assists in providing accurate and clear information to public and other departments. Being a Police Records Clerk may perform other clerical duties including taking photographs, fingerprints, and answering telephone inquiries. Typically requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Police Records Clerk typically reports to police sergeant or police lieutenant. The Police Records Clerk possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. The Department of Public Safety has an opportunity for a full-time Records Clerk. This position requires confidentiality and specialized skills. This position will consist of data entry and information processing. The role will also be cross trained in all the job functions of the other records clerks. Dictation/transcription will be a part of this position’s regular duties.
This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and two years’ experience in a responsible clerical position. To be successful, you must be proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel, must be able to type 50 WPM with high accuracy as well as possess excellent grammar, spelling, and word usage skills. Prior experience with law enforcement terminology is helpful, but not required. Selected candidates will be invited to take a keyboarding and grammar assessment.
The salary starts at $15.99/hour, commensurate with experience and offers an excellent benefits package. The position is onsite, and the hours are 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Friday. Post-offer conditions include an extensive background/driver’s license check and drug/alcohol screening.
