Patient Safety Manager manages a staff responsible for developing and implementing patient safety programs. Supervises the investigation of errors and then plans for resolution of all safety related incidents, including those involving employees, visitors, patients, and situations posing a threat to the hospital's buildings and equipment. Being a Patient Safety Manager maintains records of patient-related errors and evaluates this information in order to identify the cause of the error. Collects, reviews, and analyzes information from the facility's safety programs to identify corrective action and programs as necessary. Additionally, Patient Safety Manager recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Designs and presents training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Patient Safety Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Responsibilities

    Develop and Deploy a Quality Management System

    • Develop, deploy, and maintain a quality system that includes Quality System Improvement processes and appropriate management review leadership and facilitation, using the MSA's OS processes and tool box
    • Through influence and persuasion, drive a culture of continuous improvement by analyzing complex data from multiple sources, identify improvement opportunities, translate results into understandable goals / action items, and drive execution through follow-up and effective communications.
    • Appoint and provide direction to cross-functional teams for implementation of improvement opportunities.

    Process Implementation

    • Lead quality initiatives and improvement in areas such as: Quality Issues Notification (QN), Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA), New Product Development quality planning, and Customer complaint process and analytics.
    • Partner with Supply Chain in the consistent execution of standard processes for supplier quality systems, performance as well as a comprehensive supplier development process.
    • Ensures the voice of the customer is an integral part of the strategies and solutions developed for the enterprise.

    Determine Metrics and Analytics

    • Determine appropriate KPI's to measure and improve MSA's quality performance for customers, suppliers, and internal associates. This includes analysis in areas of warranty, issue resolution, cost of poor quality, etc.
    • Provide the leadership and vision to identify, develop and refine Quality processes and measures. Analyze key drivers of performance and identity process gaps that support those drivers. Collaborate with functional personnel to understand key drivers associated to improvement and follow-up to ensure sustainability.

    Quality Ownership

    • Build quality awareness and development across the organization through quality leadership training, new quality leader assimilation, and other programs that enhance the quality culture and competencies.
    • Coordination of cross-regional new product quality requirements, supporting design validation processes.
    • Functional Ownership of ISO Certifying Body Management

    Talent Development and Coaching

    * Develop and implement a talent management strategy for Quality and CX through effective recruiting, hiring, retention and development of key skill sets that align with MSA's core competencies.



    Qualifications

    Special Skills, Abilities and Knowledge Required:

    • Multi-facility responsibility for the function of Quality
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of ISO9001/TS/ATS and associated industry specific standards, with a track record of leading an organization to successful certification and improvement to the full standards.
    • Strong proficiency and experience developing and deploying quality systems
    • Strong leadership and management skills
    • Must have ability to effectively develop internal processes to address changes to the external/customer requirements.
    • Have an intrinsic understanding of industrial and customer specific Advanced Quality Planning methods and product validation and approval standards.
    • Strong Continuous Improvement/Lean experience and mindset with demonstrated track record of problem solving.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated through communication style and engagement

    Education/Experience Required:

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, technical or relevant discipline, preferably from an ABET-Accredited college or university.

    * This position is available at two different career levels based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education:
    o Level one: At least 8 years relevant experience.
    o Level two: At least 10 years relevant experience, including a minimum of 2 years experience in direct staff management.
    o MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience; PhD may be substituted for up to 4 years.
