Allied Sales & Service is looking for a Machinist to join our team in LaPlace, LA. As a Machinist, you will set up and operate a variety of manual machines to repair parts for industrial pumps, gearboxes, and mechanical seals.
What You’ll Do:- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, boring mills, and knee mills.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and veneer calipers.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, machines, and materials onto machines.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Measure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
- Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
- Fabricate, erect, install, and maintain shop machinery.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on shop equipment; Troubleshoot and repair as needed.
- Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Other duties may be assigned.
- HS Diploma or GED required.
- 10 years of experience operating manual machines (i.e. lathes, boring mills) OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with precision measuring instruments such as: calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales.
- Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals.
