  • OVERVIEW:
    Directs the licensed and non-licensed staff who provide health care and nursing services to the Elders at Green House Living for Sheridan (GHLS) on a 24-hour, 7-day per week basis. The Director of Nursing (DON) is a full-time employee that reports directly to the Administrator. The role of the DON is to assure the delivery of the highest level of clinical care for the Elders of GHLS’s homes and to monitor regulatory compliance. The DON’s primary responsibility is to ensure the provision of quality nursing care on a 24-hour basis to the Elders of GHLS in accordance with Federal, State and Local standards and regulations. He/she will serve as a coach and supervisor to the nurses on the Clinical Support Team (CST) (including the MDS Coordinator). The DON will receive guidance from the Medical Director as needed or requested.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    The desired minimum requirements necessary to effectively perform position responsibilities include graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; three years of responsible nursing experience, preferably in a long-term care facility; excellent management skills or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience, and the ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing, to complete required Nursing Department documentation, and respect for the principles of Elder rights, confidentiality, EEO and ADA. Applicant must be a registered nurse, with an unrestricted Wyoming license. Prefer someone with coaching leadership experience or a strong desire to learn and develop these skills.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Functions as a liaison between the Elders, their families, staff, and the public - responding to inquiries and providing information on nursing care and services provided by GHLS. • Conducts assessments of prospective Elders to assure that staff can provide the care needed. • Recommends and collaborates with Education Manager regarding in-service education programs to promote nursing staff development for geriatric nursing care. • Monitors the job performance of the nursing staff, including the MDS Coordinator, completes performance evaluations of all nurses, and recommends employee promotions and terminations to the Administrator. • Responsible for the recruitment and hiring of licensed nursing personnel. Also monitors the staffing levels of each of the cottages; and as necessary, directs staff rotations and reschedules personnel to meet increased or decreased nursing service demands. Director of Nursing may have to work on the floor if needed. • Assures that there is compliance with the regulations regarding all nursing services. • Monitors the Restorative Care Program to provide restorative nursing that maximizes each elder’s abilities. • Monitors the Wound Care Program to prevent skin breakdown. • Collaborates with the contract therapy and pharmacy consulting companies as well as the dietician to enhance the quality of care for the elders. • Communicates updates on a regular basis to the CST. • Conducts monthly nurse meetings. • Accompanies physicians and their assistants during their monthly visits. • Provides mentorship to each cottage’s Care Coordinator and conducts monthly meetings. • Attends required meetings, including, but not limited to, QAPI, Safety, Infection Prevention, Significant Change, Retention, Business Development, daily nurse’s meeting, administrative meeting, annual all-call, etc. • Assists with the preparation of the nursing annual budget and is accountable for the operating budgets of nursing personnel and medical supplies and equipment. • Makes recommendations as to the purchase of medical equipment. • Assists in preparation of the Federally mandated Facility Assessment. • Stays abreast of changes in regulations and standard nursing practices, as well as changes to the long-term care environment. • Responsible for overseeing and implementing infection control, pharmaceutical and physical/chemical restraining policies, and procedures, and assures that committee recommendations are carried out. • Regularly visits each Green House home to monitor clinical cares and individual status of the Elders. • Monitors timely compliance of collection and submission of MDS data per organizational policies. • Conducts regular chart audits. • Monitors quality improvements and disseminates quality improvement initiatives to the nursing staff. • Works with the Guide (C.N.A. Supervisor) to ensure clinical compliance, and review concerns regarding quality of care, dietary measures, quality of life, or housekeeping needs as applicable. • Attends self-managed work team meetings as necessary to communicate nursing issues/concerns. Provides input for team discussion and seeks feedback from the team. • Upholds the Green House Project values of real home, meaningful lives and empowered staff while simultaneously ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations. • Works cooperatively and communicates effectively with the administrative team and family members to ensure ongoing patient-centered care. • In the absence of the Nursing Home Administrator, the Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall operations of the facility.
