The Fredericksburg Area Builders Association (FABA) is the trade association for nearly 300 members of the residential land development and construction industry in Central Virginia, including single and multi-family developers, builders, architects, attorneys, engineers, and other professions involved in the land development and construction process.

FABA is looking for a Director of Government Affairs to proactively develop and implement advocacy strategies that promote economic development and residential land development and construction in the Greater Fredericksburg region. Primary responsibilities include: identifying and tracking relevant local legislative issues; developing and implementing lobbying strategies; maintaining strong relationships with local elected officials and staff; and fundraising and management of the association’s political action committee.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement lobbying strategies to advance policies that support economic development and residential land development and construction in the Greater Fredericksburg region
• Maintain effective relationships with local elected officials and local government staff, and other stakeholder organizations relevant to the association and the industry
• Engage and monitor local government on public policy initiatives that impact the single-family and multi-family development and construction industry
• Attend and participates in government and community meetings and reports to the members any issues affecting the industry
• Provide primary staff support to the FABA Legislative Committee, FABA FAC-PAC, and other committees and task forces as assigned by the Executive Officer (EO)
• Oversee and manage the administration of two political action committees, including fundraising, preparing and maintaining annual budget of expenditures, and ensuring compliance with applicable state and local campaign finance and election laws
• Serve as the liaison between FABA and the Home Builders Association of Virginia and the National Association of Home Builders
• Expand the association’s grassroots network of members to assist on critical legislative and regulatory issues assist the EO in preparation of news releases and public comment with the local news media on matters relevant to the industry
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the EO

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and qualifications Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia

Requirements: Candidates will have an educational background in government and politics and experience working in legislative environment or government affairs related fields. Candidates must also have good communication skills and demonstrate an ability to build relationships across a broad spectrum of constituencies. Experience with community development is preferred. Candidate should have basic proficiency with Excel and Microsoft word and be willing to travel as well as attend public meetings and events after 5pm.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
