Major Gifts Manager manages and implements a philanthropic gift program to nurture and solicit relationships with corporate, institutional, and major donors. Develops a portfolio of existing and potential donors and a strategy to enhance and extend relationships to generate philanthropic revenue. Being a Major Gifts Manager organizes events and meetings with prospects to raise awareness of the organization's mission and highlight accomplishments and ongoing funding needs. Makes regular personal contact with key contributors to strengthen relations with the organization. Additionally, Major Gifts Manager oversees proposal preparation and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Major Gifts Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Major Gifts Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Position Purpose:

    The Major Gifts Manager is responsible for managing and growing a major gift pipeline to support the Sinai Chicago’s Development Department’s short- and long-term fundraising goals as part of a comprehensive philanthropy strategy. This position reports to the Director of Major and Principal Gifts and works closely and collaboratively with the Manager of Lead Annual Giving, Manager of Development Services, and other Development team members to support and grow Sinai Chicago’s major gifts program. With the Director of Major and Principal Gifts, the Major Gifts Manager may also co-lead and execute select fundraising campaigns and strategic initiatives.

    Key Job Activities:
    • Partners closely with Director of Major and Principal Gifts to develop targeted, multi-step strategies to qualify and engage donor prospects that have emerged through the wealth-screening process, the Lead Annual Giving program, and other sources.
    • Conducts research and prepares prospect research profiles for potential and identified major gift and high-level annual gift prospects.
    • Prepares proposals and stewardship reports, donor communications, and briefing materials.
    • Coordinates and manages logistics for major gift cultivation and stewardship events, donor meetings, and site visits, in partnership with the Development Coordinator.
    • Strengthens connections with Sinai Chicago by maintaining positive relationships with donors and prospects.
    • Builds constructive and purposeful relationships with Sinai Chicago staff, including senior leadership and physicians, to ensure continued alignment between assigned fundraising campaign(s) and Sinai Chicago strategic priorities.
    • As needed, oversees fundraising campaigns and strategic projects, in partnership with Director of Major and Principal Gifts, that promote Sinai Chicago’s short- and long-term philanthropy goals.
    • Contributes to goal-setting and progress reporting.
    • Tracks activities in Raiser’s Edge.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education and Work Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • 3-5 years of professional major gift fundraising experience with increasing responsibility
    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with all constituencies, including donors, senior leaders, other employees, volunteers, board members, and community and business leaders.
    • Collaborative team member who brings an entrepreneurial approach to pipeline development.
    • Detail-oriented, timely, and able to move multiple programs and prospects forward simultaneously.
    • Ability to work independently and to synthesize and communicate data, trends, and sensitive information.
    • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, analytic, and interpersonal skills.
    • Understands privacy and confidentiality best practices and HIPAA compliance to ensure the protection of donor information, including permitted personal health information (PHI).
    • Experience with Raiser’s Edge (preferred) or similar fundraising database.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

    Category 2 - Job may expose incumbent occasionally or in emergency situations to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens

    Category 3x - Job does not involve exposure to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens. Incumbent does not perform or help in emergency medical care or first aid as a part of his/her job.

    Registry (per diem) Caregivers are caregivers who work less than 1,000 hours in a calendar year. Registry caregivers are employees of Sinai Health System but are typically on an as needed basis. These caregivers may be called upon to cover full-time or part-time caregivers during PTO events or sick leave as well as to provide supplemental coverage. Registry Caregivers are not eligible for Sinai’s benefit programs with the exception for Sick-C, PPO Medical Plan, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and non-match eligible contribution to the Sinai Health System Consolidated 403(b) retirement savings plan.
