Position Summary
The Department of Biology at the University of the Incarnate Word invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track instructor position in anatomy and physiology beginning August of 2024. The Instructor of Biology participates and contributes to the departmental curriculum, mentors undergraduate students of the major, and demonstrates a desire to actively collaborate with students and faculty within the department, from other disciplines, and the University’s health professions schools to support the mission of the University of the Incarnate Word.
Full-time instructors at UIW are expected to teach 15 credit hours (or five courses) every fall and spring semester. Courses taught will primarily include lecture and laboratory courses in anatomy and physiology and other general biology courses as needed. Coordination of anatomy and physiology laboratories will be required. Instruction in additional areas may be negotiable. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities.

Essential Functions
Primary responsibilities include:
- Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and teach lecture and laboratory courses in anatomy, physiology, and general biology consistent with the needs of the department.
- Coordinate anatomy and physiology laboratories.
- Participate in curriculum development.
- Prepare timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
- Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
- Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
- Be available outside of class to help students learn as well as answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).
- Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
- Provide service to the department, School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering, university, community, and profession.
- Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
