Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Accounting provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Accounting typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     Other Conditions:
     
    General funds, to begin approximately January 2025, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. This assignment may include teaching on- and off-campus, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and distance education assignments using multiple teaching methodologies; and travel between Hilo, West Hawaii, and other off-site locations.  Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.
     

    Duties and Responsibilities:
     

    1. Under general supervision, develop, organize and conduct transfer and non-transfer level courses in Accounting and related areas. 
    2. Prepare, revise and assess course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program and college levels.
    3. Plan, organize and execute instructional and non-instructional assignments, including program assessment and reviews.
    4. Work independently and collaboratively with colleagues to develop curriculum and to identify, plan, develop, and implement teaching strategies to meet college and community needs.
    5. Work with colleagues in preparing, developing, revising, and implementing course outlines, instructional materials and syllabi. 
    6. Conduct academic advising of students and assist in campus related student activities.
    7. Assist with/participate in campus related activities and in-service training. 
    8. Make and maintain contacts with industry to assess current training needs and maintain subject matter currency.
    9. Continually update courses to correspond to industry needs.
    10. Coordinate certificate and degree programs with community agencies.
    11. Build programs to meet college and community needs.
    12. Develop and maintain an approved program of professional self-development activities.
    13. Participate in department, college and community services, including but not limited to committee and recruitment activities as appropriate.
    14. Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
    15. Perform other duties as assigned.  

    Minimum Qualifications:
     
    1. Master’s in Accounting (MAcc); 
    2. OR Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) including 18 credits in Accounting (undergraduate and/or graduate – 300 level or higher); 
    3. OR Bachelor’s in Accounting and 3 years of related work experience in accounting; 
    4. OR Bachelor’s in related fields such as Business Administration (in areas other than accounting) including 18 credits Accounting (undergraduate and/or graduate – 300 level or higher) and 5 years of related work experience in Accounting; 
    5. OR Bachelor’s in any field and CPA/CMA or equivalent professional accounting certification (in the USA).
     
    Desirable Qualification:
     
    1. Certified Public Accountant.
    2. Experience with computerized accounting systems and software such as, but not limited to QuickBooks and Excel.
    3. Experience with and/or willingness to teach distance education courses. 
    4. Experience teaching accounting courses at the community college level.  
    5. Experience working as a member of a team.
    6.  Evidence of being able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse groups of faculty, staff, students and the public.
    7. Experience with educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and/or technology-mediated teaching/learning processes.
    8. Experience with: environmental and social sustainability issues and trends; accounting industry trends; conducting business globally.
    9. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting equity and a diverse workforce/academic environment.
    10. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
