Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment or machinery, such as a tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, or excavator, for the purposes of construction, demolition, or excavation. Prepares equipment and conducts routine inspections prior to operation to ensure it is safe and in working condition. Being a Heavy Equipment Operator identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols and regulations. May be responsible for scheduling minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. Additionally, Heavy Equipment Operator requires a high school diploma. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Operator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors. Responsibilities:
- Operate various types of heavy equipment including loaders, farm machinery, backhoes, and excavation equipment.
- Safely and efficiently operate equipment to perform tasks such as digging, building, loading/unloading materials, and transporting goods.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate work activities.
Experience:
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, etc.
- Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of excavation equipment is preferred.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols related to heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints or construction plans.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Experience excavating around utilities and/or traffic
- Physical stamina and strength to perform tasks that may require lifting heavy objects or working in challenging conditions.
