Head Coach (Major Sport) oversees all activities of a major athletic team. Assists players in reaching highest athletic potential possible through athletic training and leadership skills.   • SUMMARY OF POSITION: This position assists with the overall implementation and compliance of the Head Start Performance Standards and Education responsibilities. This position participates in intercomponent coordination throughout the program and will train, coach, and mentor staff in the following areas:

    • Meeting Early Learning Outcomes, KFHS School Readiness Goals, Performance Standards, Child Care Licensure Rules, and KFHS Policies and Procedures.
    • Occupational duties, including record keeping and other daily responsibilities.
    • Lesson Planning and KFHS curriculums, including Creative Curriculum, Conscious Discipline, etc.
    • Observation and assessment and Child Goal Setting in TS Gold.
    • Home visiting, Family Partnership Plans and family engagement.
    • Providing safe and engaging classroom environments.
    • Processes for advocating and supporting children and families with social emotional, language barrier, and developmental needs. Including goal planning, support plans, and IFSPs.     MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: BA required in Early Childhood Education or related field. Accreditation must be accepted by the state of Oregon. Three years Head Start Experience preferred. Demonstrate the ability to express ideas effectively with staff/professionals/community members and work with a minimum of supervision.

    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Support the vision, mission and values of the agency in the implementation of the Head Start Performance Standards.
    • Promote positive public relations and act as an advocate for Head Start.
    • Model behaviors that demonstrate an understanding, acceptance and welcoming of diversity.
    • Be responsible to encourage in-kind donations from families and community members.
    • Support and implement the Conscious Discipline Curriculum throughout the program.
    • Abide by the Standards of Conduct/Code of Ethics and Statement of Confidentiality (see Policies 133.A and 133-1. A respectively) agreed to and signed annually.
    • Actively pursue community partners, to locate and access resources for families.
    • Maintain requirements as reflected in the Performance Standards.
    • Scheduled attendance is required to ensure an adequate staffing level.
    • Analysis of trends in the field, as well as data on children and families in the program.
    • Support staff and parent communication.
    • As part of the education team, assist in the development and implementation of a plan for team building, staff training and development.
    • Act as a liaison to public school to develop positive relationships to:
    • advocate for developmentally appropriate curricula in the early years;
    • advocate for families and Head Start working toward kindergarten readiness; and
    • assist parents and staff in securing resources and services.
    • Submit data monthly for appropriate reports.
    • Follow financial policies/ procedures as set by grant contract.
    • Participate in and / or conduct agency meeting and trainings.
    • Obtain and retain CLASS reliability certification.
    • Attend Program Operation Meetings, as requested.
    • Travel may be required to attend appropriate trainings. Travel may include overnights.
    • Work at other sites as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Substitute as needed.
    • Promote positive work environment.
    • Lead classes and teach for extended periods of time as needed.

    CLASSROOM COACH RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Be a proactive, positive, and uplifting role model for other staff members.
    • Provide Coaching for Teaching/Home Visiting practice, occupational duties, and challenging behaviors.
    • Assist with maintaining state, federal, and local licensing regulations. Promptly and appropriately report all incidents, accidents, and maintenance needs to manager or director.
    • Prioritize classroom needs, including substitute teaching, and immediately handling safety issues and coaching staff through active supervision, classroom management, and challenging behaviors in the moment, as needed.
    • Train, coach, and mentor staff in the following areas:
    • Meeting Early Learning Outcomes, KFHS School Readiness Goals, Performance Standards, Child Care Licensure Rules, and KFHS Policies and Procedures.
    • Occupational duties, including record keeping and other daily responsibilities.
    • Lesson Planning and KFHS curriculums, including Creative Curriculum, Conscious Discipline, etc.
    • Observation and assessment and Child Goal Setting in TS Gold.
    • Home visiting, Family Partnership Plans and family engagement.

    • Work with staff to create shared goals and develop action plans for achieving goals.
    • Conduct regular Observations, and Debrief including CLASS, ITTERs, ECERs, HOVRs, etc.
    • Plan and attend meetings as required: team meetings, staff meetings, behavior support planning, IFSO, etc.
    • Collaborate with Family Engagement Advocate, managers, CFC, team members, and teaching staff to provide and coach teachers through Parent Engagement activities.
    • Collaborate with and provide ongoing communication with pertinent staff.
    • Collaborate with managers and CFC to set goals and provide Professional Development opportunities.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BA required in Early Childhood Education or related field. Accreditation must be accepted by the state of Oregon. Three years Head Start Experience preferred.
    • Possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record or have reliable transportation.
    • Be willing and able to travel, including overnight as necessary.
    • The ability to speak, read and write Spanish, preferred.
    • Demonstrate ability to:
    • Maintain professional composure under pressure;
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing:
    • Organize and manage time and tasks efficiently;
    • Approach issues with an attitude of learning and an intent to guide and mentor;
    • Adapt quickly to changes, embrace challenges, and problem solve in the moment;
    • Work with minimal supervision.
    • Lead group discussions.

    EMPLOYMENT-RELATED REQUIREMENTS:

    • Employment is contingent upon evidence of registry with the State of Oregon, Child Care Division.

    • After employment, must obtain:
    • Physical Examination - See policy Pers-07-716.
    • Provide evidence of auto insurance and obtain DMV driving record document each year; to be eligible for mileage reimbursement or to drive a Head Start vehicle
