Golf Superintendent - Assistant assists the Superintendent in the overall maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (e.g., fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure quality playing conditions. Supervises personnel and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths. Being a Golf Superintendent - Assistant ensures adherence to golf course maintenance budget and capital plans. May serve in the Superintendent's capacity during absence. Additionally, Golf Superintendent - Assistant may require an associate degree. Typically reports to a golf course superintendent. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Assists Golf Course Superintendent with implementation of agronomic and course conditioning tasks and upkeep of all related equipment.
This description includes, but is not necessarily limited to the duties and responsibilities noted below:
· Maintains all grounds
· Maintains course maintenance equipment
· Schedules personnel assigned to department
· Assists in recruiting, hiring and training personnel assigned to department
· Supervises personnel assigned to department
· Evaluates personnel assigned to department
· Assists in supervision of all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on golf course
· Supervises operations of and personnel in equipment repair shop
· Records all work activities of personnel in the department
· Records all maintenance on course
· Assists in preparation of annual budget for department
· Assists in selection and preparation of proper fertilizers and nutrients for all flora and fauna
· Assists in developing and maintaining drainage, irrigation and watering systems
· Maintains course in proper playing condition
· Provides necessary input for all required personnel records
· Implements and enforces comprehensive safety program for employees, members and guests on course in compliance with local, state, and federal laws
· Assists with calibration of all fertilizer and pesticide application equipment
· Maintains accurate work records for all personnel in department
· Follows Integrated Pest Management practices in the care of the course and grounds
Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Course Mechanic and all other golf course employees
Salaried Exempt, Full-time
Works indoors and outdoors. Potential exposure to inclement weather, potentially dangerous chemicals, solvents, pesticides, and fertilizers, exposed to sharp and rapid equipment movements on a daily basis.
Injury may occur as a result of exposure to the above if safety procedures are not properly followed at all times.
· Must have the ability to follow and give verbal and written instructions.
· Must have the ability to perform mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
· Must have the ability to supervise subordinates.
· Must have the ability to read and interpret information from technical sources.
· Must be able to communicate verbally with golfers.
· Must have the ability to inspect all work spaces, golf course, and grounds.
· Must have the ability to stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, bend and kneel for five hours at a time without sitting.
· Must have the ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
Requirements
Turfgrass Certificate or Degree preferred but not required, Golf course experience. Applicators license preferred Will Train.
