Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Foundation Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     As the Associate Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, Health Sciences you will create strategic action plans to solicit local, regional, and national corporate & philanthropic foundations that align with key priorities at UConn Health, with particular focus on the School of Medicine and John Dempsey Hospital. The successful Candidate will be a collaborative and experienced fundraising professional with an established record of securing funding from foundations, corporations, and organizations.

    You will be responsible for developing relationships with potential funders and submitting successful proposals to support UConn Health. You will ensure that all submitted materials are of the highest quality, fully support the Foundation’s mission, goals and key messages, and are consistent with and complementary to UConn Health’s objectives and mission.

    Reporting to the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations and working closely with the Senior Director for Development, UConn Health, you will also partner with faculty, physicians, and researchers.

    In this role, you will:

    • Put a strong emphasis on the identification, strategy and solicitation activities for foundations and corporations that will bring significant resources for UConn Health’s highest priorities in teaching, research and patient care.
    • Establish working relationships with key faculty and staff to gain knowledge of UConn Health activities to generate corporate and foundation support.
    • Serve as a liaison between the corporate & philanthropic community and UConn Health, facilitating access to academic, clinical and research funding opportunities.
    • Collaborate with Senior Director to develop policies and projects that position CFR for overall fundraising success, including successful internal and external CFR brand recognition at UConn Health.
    • Develop annual workplans to meet and exceed performance metrics: work with Prospect Research to guide caseload assignments; track, analyze and report on progress against goals.
    • Foster strong working relationships with Foundation colleagues, adhering to Prospect Management Guidelines and providing timely and appropriate documentation of interactions and solicitations.
    • Manage a small caseload (5-10) of individual major gift prospects with ties to personal or family foundations.
    • Work with the Sr. Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Health Sciences to provide policy recommendations and establish policies to better identify, secure and manage grants in partnerships with UConn Health and OVPR and to position the team for fundraising success, including internal and external CFR brand recognition.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Be a well-organized self-starter who can manage time effectively and who possesses excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Be able to perform multiple tasks, to track details, and to set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Have experience researching potential prospects for an academic medical center.
    • Be able to build relationships to achieve desired outcomes in accordance with the goals of the position.
    • Engender trust and confidence of donors and prospective donors and to maintain confidentiality of donor information; ability to represent the UConn Foundation to prospects, donors, faculty, administrators, and others.
    • Be able to exercise independent, creative and insightful judgment.
    • Have knowledge of various office software systems such as Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
    • Be able to be congenial, professional, and effective in managing relationships with donors, Foundation staff, faculty and staff, and visitors.
    • Possess strong interpersonal skills, ability to build project support from internal stakeholders.
    • Be available to work to the demands of the position which may exceed a 40-hour work week.
    • Be willing to travel throughout the state of Connecticut and occasionally outside of the state. Reliable personal transportation is necessary for this position.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license issued from state in which employee resides. Employee must maintain at their expense, automobile liability insurance coverage in the minimum amount of $500,000 or a combination of umbrella and automobile liability insurance coverage of $500,000. A certificate of automobile insurance evidencing the limit, must be provided to the Foundation at hire and annually thereafter.

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • 2 years of major gift fundraising experience with the majority of experience in corporate and foundation relations fundraising in healthcare or at an academic medical center.
    • A successful record of securing major gifts/grants from corporate and foundation donors.

    Salary:

    The expected salary for this position is $71,000 It will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also placing an emphasis on internal equity.
