FIRE CAPTAIN manages a team of firefighters. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and serviced. Being a FIRE CAPTAIN directs training and conditioning activities. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage. Additionally, FIRE CAPTAIN leads and coordinates responses to fire events, hazardous material incidents, auto accidents, and search and rescue operations. Prepares post-incident reports as required. Leads or coordinates fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The FIRE CAPTAIN manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a FIRE CAPTAIN typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. The City of Franklin has an immediate opening for a Fire Prevention Captain/Inspector. The Fire Prevention Captain reports directly to the Fire Chief. Qualified candidates must be able to communicate effectively with City staff and the public. This position demands teamwork.

- City Health Officer
- Fire Inspections
- Fire Investigations
- Fire Prevention and Education
- Assist when needed in fire department operations
Minimum Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- 5 years of supervisory work
- Valid NH driver’s license
- Fire Investigator experience
- Fire Inspector II
- ICC Building Inspection course work/certification
- NH Firefighter II
- Clean Driving Record and Criminal Background Check
This position demands a candidate who has the ability to work in the public and represent the City with the highest level of professionalism.
Salary Range $62,608 - $70,844 depending on Qualification
