Financial Reporting Director directs and oversees the preparation and distribution of all periodic financial statements for external use. Ensures that reports, filings and documentation complies with company's regulations, professional standards, and SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines. Being a Financial Reporting Director confirms that entries, transactions, and accounts are accurately and properly consolidated and are included in internal and external financial statements. Advises management of trends and changes in reporting requirements and recommends best approach for any changes in reporting. Additionally, Financial Reporting Director may serve as a liaison with or oversee the work of external auditors. May direct the preparation of materials for board or shareholders. Requires a bachelor's degree of Accounting or Finance. Typically reports to top management. The Financial Reporting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Financial Reporting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     A DAY IN THE LIFE:

    The Director, Technical Accounting oversees the company's technical accounting function, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and regulations, and offering expertise on complex accounting matters. As leader within Finance, this role also supports development of revenue accounting professionals through mentorship and by fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

    The Technical Accounting Director at Tandem Diabetes Care:

    • Conducts technical accounting research and draft accounting position papers, maintaining internal documentation of technical accounting standards.
    • Stays informed about developments at the SEC and FASB that may impact accounting or disclosure requirements, educates business stakeholders on potential impacts, and collaborates on any necessary system enhancements or process refinements.
    • Serves as the subject matter expert for the company's warranty reserve accounting, including collaborating closely with data science, customer technical support, and operations teams to analyze warranty trends and determine appropriate warranty reserves and acting as the primary contact for external auditors regarding warranty reserves.
    • Leads and mentors a team of revenue accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Provide guidance on complex revenue recognition issues and ensure team members are well-trained.
    • Leads other complex accounting matters, including convertible debt, lease accounting, intangible impairment assessment, etc.
    • Performs contract reviews from a finance perspective, negotiating advantageous business terms, and providing guidance on the accounting treatment of contractual terms.
    • Contributes to merger and acquisition activities, including due diligence, third-party valuations, and purchase accounting assessments.
    • Leads the post-acquisition accounting integration process, ensuring seamless transition and consolidation of financial data, systems, and processes across acquired entities.
    • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to facilitate the establishment of international entities, providing accounting expertise for foreign legal entity setup, participating in tax assessments, coordinating bank account setup, configuring general ledger systems, and assisting with payroll setup.
    • Assists in maintaining and improving SOX compliance as it relates to technical accounting processes.
    • Reviews and update policies and procedures, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.

    YOU’RE AWESOME AT:

    • Knowledge of ERP, accounting, and financial reporting systems.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP including experience performing research on technical accounting issues.
    • Excellent analytical, management, and organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to deal with complex transactions.
    • Experience researching, concluding and documenting accounting issues.
    • Adept at creating and communicating a clear vision and expectations at all levels including Board members, senior management and within the finance department.
    • Skilled at effectively communicating department or area issues and results within and across functional areas and conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects or timelines. Able to gain cooperation of others.
    • Skilled at effectively leading a cooperative team effort and organizing resources to achieve team goals, including ability to make and prioritize process and resource decisions based on overall team needs.
    • Demonstrated analytical experience with ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with other departments and different levels of management.

    YOU'LL NEED: 

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A/B.S.) in Accounting, Finance, or related field or combination of equivalent education and applicable work experience.
    • CPA, preferred.
    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting, with significant experience at a Big 4 accounting firm.

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

    The starting base pay range for this position is $180,000 - $205,000  annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.

    Tandem offers health care benefits such as medical, dental, vision, health savings accounts and flexible saving accounts.  You’ll also receive 10 paid holidays per year, a minimum of 20 days of paid time off (starting in year 1) and have access to a 401k plan with company match.  Learn more about Tandem’s benefits here!
