Finance Director jobs in California
Finance Director directs an organization's financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury. Being a Finance Director generally is the second most senior finance executive. Requires a master's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent. Additionally, Finance Director may require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. Typically reports to chief financial officer (CFO). The Finance Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Finance Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Position Summary
As the Director of Client Finance, you'll play a pivotal role in overseeing the company's service delivery while serving as an outsourced CFO for our clients. Your responsibilities will include supervising finance, accounting, and compliance reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial information, and maintaining strong client relationships.
Essential Job Functions- Supervise financial and accounting services, including financial statement preparation, accounts payable/receivable, and expense tracking.
- Review financial statements to ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare annual budgets and monthly forecasts, providing valuable financial insights to clients.
- Oversee annual financial audits and ensure compliance with governmental programs.
- Serve as a fiscal liaison to various agencies and provide training to client staff on internal controls.
- Collaborate with organizational leaders to effectively communicate financial information.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the charter industry through professional development.
- Mentor staff to foster their professional growth within the firm.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience, including staff oversight and development.
- Experience in a professional service firm, CPA firm, or charter school finance is advantageous.
- Non-profit accounting experience is a plus.
- CPA certification is highly desired but not mandatory.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel.
- Knowledge of Abila/Sage Non-Profit Accounting and Paychex/ADP software is beneficial.
- Ability to read numbers and documents on computer terminals.
- Use of telephone and other communication devices.
- Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Some bending, stooping, and stretching may be required.
- Analytical ability to process and articulate information effectively.
- Standard office environment with occasional travel to client locations.
- Flexibility to work outside of regular office hours to meet deadlines.
