Implements and maintains overall engineering objectives and initiatives. Being an Engineering Manager confronts and solves performance/operational issues to improve development efficiency. Leads and develops the engineering team. Additionally, Engineering Manager oversees a robust project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule and on budget. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline. Typically reports to a director. The Engineering Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Engineering Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     We are looking for an Engineering Manager who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, comfortable navigating ambiguity while moving projects forward, and motivated to build programs and processes that foster greater team organization, efficiency and scalability. This person will focus on people management, strategic alignment and software development projects that have a meaningful impact on the progress of EnergyHub everywhere.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Experienced in managing software development teams, ideally in a Java based environment
    • Believe in guiding teams with clear direction to ensure team has the right resources, ability to participate in solution development and making sure team is able to deliver quality, well-tested code on time, in scope, and focus on continued scalability
    • Work in partnership across the organization, including Product to define the team's mission, vision and roadmap
    • Comfortable providing strategic oversight, architectural direction and execution for new team initiatives, eg, code refactoring and transition to microservices environment
    • Strong 3rd party integration background and an ability to ensure seamless enrollment of devices for our partners and guaranteeing their uptime (device/IOT experience ideal, not required)
    • Motivated to learn about and manage the process of integrating devices from various manufacturers and creatively solving the onboarding process for each of those devices without limiting their use and effectiveness
    • Thrive on building your team's skills through coaching, mentoring and training opportunities
    • Believe in continuously raising the bar through sustainable, high quality execution of your team through organizational evolution, process improvement efforts and leveling your team's technical prowess

    • Core technical knowledge and experience with some of the tools and technologies at EnergyHub with a focus on Java, Spring, AWS (EC2, ECS), MongoDB and Snowflake
    • 2 years of experience directly managing teams of developers (ideally with teams of 5-7 )
    • Clear the way for architectural conversations and conclusions with teams while also providing framework and process needed to effectively deploy software in an Agile environment
    • Conduct code reviews across the team and undaunted about working in the existing code base as needed
    • Ability to learn from unsuccessful projects with appropriate corrections to improve process, resource, and coaching
    • Collaborative approach to working with your product management partner to prioritize the backlog including technical debt items.
    • Comfortable communicating directly with external partners.
    • Ambiguity and a dynamic work environment are exciting and present unique opportunities for growth, innovative solution development, etc
    • Believe in a test first approach to coding
    • Successful launch of multiple products or new features into the market
