Editor reviews, edits, and re-writes a variety of documents and/or digital content. Responsible for creating and maintaining accurate and compelling content for written copy and/or websites and other online communications media. Being an Editor ensures that all content meets required and accepted format and standards. Evaluates content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency. Additionally, Editor may coordinate with creative team to produce final drafts. Requires a bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Editor occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. The Gainesville Daily Register is searching for an editor to oversee its newsroom in Gainesville, Texas. The editor is responsible for news and opinion content for our print and digital platforms, magazine and other niche publications.
The Daily Register provides daily news on gainesvilleregister.com and publishes a print newspaper twice a week.
Applicants need a collaborative management style, a strong sense of professionalism, a passion for local news, ability to also cover sports, strong editing and writing skills, and the ability to drive significant enterprise journalism. We also require proven ability to communicate clearly; organize time and plan efficiently; set high standards, and motivate the staff to produce journalism readers want, need and value.
Gainesville is about 70 miles north of Dallas and is the county seat of Cooke County with a population of approximately 16,000. It is home to North Central Texas College and the annual Medal of Honor ceremonies in North Texas.
