Distribution Manager manages and deploys the operational strategy, business processes, and systems for overall distribution operations, including order fulfillment, warehousing, inventory management, and transportation. Communicates and monitors production measurement metrics and sets performance targets at the team and individual level for all distribution-related functions that align with company objectives and are within regulatory guidelines. Being a Distribution Manager utilizes data-driven analytical tools and systems to continuously monitor operations, identify inefficiencies, and develop optimization strategies. Troubleshoots and resolves escalated operational issues. Additionally, Distribution Manager ensures all operations adhere to industry safety protocols and comply with OSHA, DOT, or other governmental regulations. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Distribution Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Distribution Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. The Distribution Manager is responsible for all phases of distribution including daily truck routing (inter-company shuttles, trailer and bulk deliveries), monitoring delivery vehicle maintenance, recordkeeping, and driver safety oversight. The Distribution Manager is responsible for maximizing delivery service in a safe and efficient manner. Supervises drivers and coordinates special requirements with Plant Manager and shift leads. Provides safety and compliance training to meet DOT, OSHA, FDA and Corporate requirements. Champions distribution efficiency initiatives for the location, including demand leveling. Drives continuous improvement in daily distribution operations. Develops, documents and trains employees on SOPs and processes. Daily review and processing of all DOT documentation including vehicle condition reports and drivers hours of service, route efficiency and completion. Reviews incoming orders for accuracy and unusual requirements. Communicate unusual requirements for production planning. Prepares daily local and inter-branch delivery schedule for cylinders and bulk. Prepares load sheets, delivery tickets and manifests and highlights any critical customer requirements. Insures loads are accurate and complete. Reviews returned trips for paperwork accuracy and completeness, and unfulfilled orders Reviews open orders for status and closure. Responds to inquiries from sales, customer service and branches regarding delivery status and capabilities Responds to emergency delivery requirements. Manages availability of drivers and equipment, including all maintenance requirements, to insure that adequate resources are available to meet distribution needs. Controls distribution costs and maximizes service response through balancing of daily routes and overall system optimization. Directly supervises drivers. College degree in supply chain management, logistics management or related field preferred. Minimum 5 years experience in a manufacturing or distribution operation. Minimum 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a distribution environment. Knowledge of truck routing and shipping of hazardous materials. Knowledge of DOT regulations and FDA requirements. Working knowledge of SAP strongly preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office to include prior experience using Outlook, Word and Excel. Self-starter, self-motivated, independent, well-organized with attention to detail. Team player with positive attitude; strong collaborative skills; ability to influence without having direct authority. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read, comprehend and articulate technical procedures, governmental regulations, MSDS, safety rules, manufacturer operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with others in both favorable and unfavorable situations regardless of status of position. Accepts cultural diversity and establishes effective working relationships. Strong analytical skills; competency for understanding metrics and ability to present and communicate to all levels of the organization and external customers. Leadership skills; Identifies requirements; allocates, and effectively uses information, personnel, time, and other resources necessary for goal accomplishment; establishes appropriate courses of action for self and/or others to accomplish specific goals; develops evaluation criteria and tracking systems for monitoring goal progress and accomplishment; and specifies objectives, schedules, and priorities.
