Dean of Students provides strategic initiatives and direction for student affairs. Ensures the delivery of effective and quality service to students in the following areas: student housing, counseling, student conduct, and orientation. Being a Dean of Students counsels the top management regarding overall student morale and services. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Dean of Students typically reports to top management. The Dean of Students manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Position Title: Dean of Students, Middle School School
Department: Middle School Building
Reports To: Principal
SUMMARY: Responsible for aiding the Principal and Assistant Principal in the administration of the total school program. Responsible for overseeing student academic progress, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment, developing and implementing school policies, and addressing student behavioral issues. They are often the go-to person for parents, teachers, and students for any school-related issues. The Dean of Students also collaborates closely with other administrators to develop and execute strategies aimed at improving student retention and success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
Administers a program of student discipline.
Assists in managing building staff, including class schedules and building problems.
Assists scheduling special events during the school day.
Provides general supervision to students. Supervise before and after school activities.
Effective communication with parents.
Monitor and enforce the Corporation’s attendance policy.
Enhance a positive climate and culture at Knox Middle School.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include addressing complaints and resolving problems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from community, regulatory agencies, or members of staff. Ability to build positive relationships with all stakeholders.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
