Dean of Humanities manages administrative functions of the college of humanities. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Humanities leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Humanities requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Humanities manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Humanities typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Summary:
    The Dean for the School of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Inclusion is responsible for the leadership of the faculty and staff in the school and in the hiring, supervising, and evaluation of faculty, monitoring and improving the effectiveness of transfer programs, and promoting faculty development and student success.  It also includes responsibility for noncredit to credit pathways and equity and inclusion initiatives.  The dean builds partnerships across the college and within the community, spearheads college initiatives, promotes educational innovations, and establishes both noncredit and credit schedule which promotes student completion. This position is required to travel to our off-campus sites.   Some evening and occasional weekend hours are required.  The position reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Services and Student Development and provides supervision and evaluation for the faculty and directors.

    Salary is restricted to above range and will not exceed the maximum of the range. Salary offers are non negotiable and offers are determined and are based upon related work experience submitted on resume.

    • Recruits, orients, supervises, and evaluates, program coordinators, directors, and faculty.
    • Performs monthly duties at our off-campus sites at Allentown Donley Center and Tamaqua Morgan Center Tamaqua to develop noncredit and credit schedules with site supervisors and to meet with and observe faculty teaching at the site locations.
    • Advance the college’s DEI efforts to recruit and retain students characterized by a rich diversity of cultural, racial, economic, ideological, and social identities, and encourage a campus culture that values difference and supports inclusion.
    • Provides oversight and participation with honors scholars program and liberal arts
    • Serves as lead on the schedule review process for both noncredit and credit courses.
    • Serves as Academic Services liaison with High School Connections for dual enrollment course scheduling and staffing.
    • Fosters faculty professional development, and recruiting/retaining/supporting excellent faculty.
    • Promotes faculty engagement using shared governance.
    • Responsible for scheduling and staffing of noncredit and credit courses in collaboration with the deans of other schools, online education, concurrent enrollment, workforce and leadership development, and enrollment management.
    • Approves faculty class schedules.
    • Provides day-to-day support for faculty, addresses faculty concerns, and supports faculty innovations.
    • Responds to student issues and supports student initiatives.
    • Oversees program accreditation activities, program and course assessment reporting, curriculum feasibility and compliance.
    • Understands the potential exposure of the compliance risk and ensure measures are in place to proactively mitigate those exposures.
    • Participates in the program 5-year Academic Audit process and all curricular assessments.
    • Manages school office, budget, and labs.
    • Serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet and Leadership Team.
    • Collaborate with other leadership and members of the college community to advance the college’s goals, mission, and strategic, academic, and enrollment plans.
    • Create the conditions for the division to establish and maintain productive relationships with internal College partners and external community partners to advance collaborative and innovative programming and resources to support equitable student success and literacy.
    • Provide leadership for data assessment, gaps analysis, and improvement of outcomes to drive strategic planning, budget, staffing and resource allocation to support the achievement of college goals for students’ literacy, sense of belonging and equitable student success.  Direct continuous assessment and outcomes improvement activities.
    • Work closely with academic and student development leaders to discuss equitable student success, examine data, establish and continuously improve institutional strategy and structure for literacy, student inclusion and belonging– within and outside the classroom–along the student journey to goal completion.
    • The Dean serves on the Strategic Planning Team, Diversity and Equity Teams, and partners with community-based organizations and agencies to collaborate, coordinate and strengthen the institution’s ability to meet its strategic goals for literacy, Aspira, and ELL, students’ well-being, belonging, and equitable student success.  
    • Provide leadership for institutional efforts to support equitable student success, including evaluation of institutional systems, programming, and policy to mitigate and/or eliminate barriers to support student retention.  
    • Acts as administrative liaison with advisory committee, institutional committees and councils.
    • Participation in institution program level funding by federal, state or foundation grant implementation and reporting requirements.
    • Coordinates faculty professional development, particularly in pedagogy, grant writing, and interdisciplinary learning, with emphasis on continuous improvement of technical skills and curricular innovations.
    • Promotes the college’s interests with internal and external constituencies.
    • Ensure daily operations of J.E.D.I. (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) Center and all Literacy, Aspira, and ELL Programs.
    • Supports student publications.
    • Develops and maintains an operational manual.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the vice president for academic services and student support.
    Qualifications:
    Required
    Education
    • Master’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
    • Foreign degrees – must provide a US equivalency report of your degree credentials with your transcript, if not, your resume will not be accepted.
    Certifications
    • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI  Clearance Fingerprinting)
          Work Experience
    • Five years administrative experience.
    • Experience in collegiate teaching.
    • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
    • Must demonstrate experience in working with faculty to develop innovative programs, write grants, increase student success/retention, and develop articulation agreements.
    • Must have well-developed leadership and interpersonal skills in addition to embracing diversity in the college community.
    • Must demonstrate analytical and communication skills as demonstrated by an ability to use data lead change effectively.
    • Must possess a strong understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the comprehensive community college.
    • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.
