Networks with community leaders and officials to raise awareness of specific social or environmental issues. Being a Community Organizer plans and devises action plans to access resources. Organizes community members to work toward a common goal supported by staff and volunteer workers. Additionally, Community Organizer may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Community Organizer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. The Community Organizer will work to support and mobilize residents who are directly impacted by shale gas, petrochemical, coal, and other development that threaten our climate, ecosystems, water, and quality of life in the Youghiogheny River Watershed and broader Ohio River Valley.

This role will:
👥ORGANIZE & ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY:
Actively engage with a diversity of individuals and communities throughout the Youghiogheny River Watershed and greater Ohio River Valley region. Work with community leaders to host and promote local meetings & initiatives. Develop and provide trainings, support, and information so residents are better equipped to advocate for their communities.
📢MOBILIZE:
Mobilize residents for events, actions, and meetings across the region through direct outreach (phone calls, mailings, e-mails, canvassing, etc).
✍️STORYTELL:
Identify and take advantage of opportunities to amplify impacted communities’ stories throughout the region via social media, the placement of letters to the editor, op-eds, and interview opportunities.
🤝COLLABORATE:
Collaborate with other organizations & coalitions to support regional campaigns & initiatives in Southwestern Pennsylvania and the broader Ohio River Valley.
