    TEN is part of 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now, a nonprofit organization that works at the local level to advocate for a high-quality education for all kids, regardless of their address. We develop local education leaders by providing them with the research, tools, and ideas needed to create learning environments that best meet every child’s needs. 50CAN operates campaigns in Connecticut, Delaware, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Tennessee and is led by CEO & Founder Marc Porter Magee.

    TEN supports parent leaders across the state to build powerful and informed teams within their local communities in order to push for greater access to world-class schools and systems and hold them accountable to serve the needs of families and children. TEN works in multiple districts across the front range and the state legislature in order to support a network of grassroots leaders led by passionate and well-trained parents.


    Community Organizer Associate


    The community organizer associate role is an ideal fit for someone passionate about the intersection of public education, policy, and politics looking to continue their career in issue-based advocacy.  This role will work directly with TEN's leadership team and support the organization’s advocacy strategy.  In particular they will prioritize parent leader identification and development, administrating advocacy campaigns in line with the organization’s policy goals.


    The Community Organizer Associate will also serve an important role with TEN’s affiliated 501(c)(4) organization, TEN Collective Impact. This will include mobilizing advocates to contact elected officials and educating advocates about important elections.


    The position requires a good communicator who is hard-working and passionate about TEN’s cause. It requires someone who is good at taking initiative to complete a project once they have been given instructions. It presents an excellent opportunity for a person to meet important people involved in advocacy in Colorado and nationally and grow in the profession.


    Key Responsibilities include:

    • Identify potential leaders through one-on-ones, community referrals, grassroots base build efforts, and TEN events
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders
      • Manage a system to track parent and community organizing efforts
      • Plan and coordinate organizing and advocacy opportunities, including meetings, public events, and actions in partnership with local leadership teams
      • Coordinate and execute TEN’s Parent Choose Programming 
      • Support and guide parent leadership teams through issue organizing cycles aligned to TEN’s policy goals
      • Draft and disseminate regular communications to funders, advocates and allies, and maintain TEN’s social media presence
      • Use TEN's online tools to build and roll out calls to action and advocacy campaigns
      • Organize logistics for electoral advocacy with TEN Collective Impact, including advocate phone banking and candidate endorsement meetings
      • Represent TEN at local events and gatherings, as assigned by the Executive 


      Required Skills/Experience:


      • Bilingual, Spanish
      • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent work experience
      • A willingness to work with diverse communities, racially diverse as well as politically diverse
      • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and communities
      • Ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively, including speaking in small and large group settings
      • Strong strategic thinking skills and an ability to analyze policies and institutions
      • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, requiring flexibility, self-motivation, self-directed problem-solving, collaborative work style, drive toward results, and enthusiasm
      • Willingness to work as a member of and contribute to a team in a dynamic, learning environment, including supporting team members in parallel roles
      • Passion for creating more high-quality school options for working families
      • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
      • Ability to travel to and attend some evening meetings and some weekends
      • Must have reliable transportation

       

      Preferred:

      • Two to five years of experience in communications, advocacy, or politics
      • Experience in creating, supporting, and communicating complex public and educational policy matters
