Civil Engineering Supervisor supervises a team of civil engineers who design and develop construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, and roads. Reviews and analyzes the design effectiveness and structural reliability of major projects. Being a Civil Engineering Supervisor ensures maintenance of equipment and adherence to safety prevention measures. Monitors personnel needs and schedules staff accordingly. Additionally, Civil Engineering Supervisor also responsible for preparing proposals, establishing completion dates and cost estimates, and evaluation results. Supervises inspections of aging or compromised structures and improvement projects. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Requires Professional Engineer License (PE). Typically reports to a manager. The Civil Engineering Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Civil Engineering Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. We are hiring an experienced EIT or PE to join our team. The role will be focused on land development for a diverse client base, including K-12 and higher education, commercial, restaurant, office, municipal, park district, historic preservation and infrastructure improvement projects across the United States.
Key Responsibilities- Apply principles, methods, and techniques of civil engineering technology as they relate to land development including the design of drainage and stormwater systems, water systems, sanitary sewer systems, parking, and roadways
- Utilize Civil 3D software to prepare exhibits and construction documents
- Utilize stormwater management and storm sewer software to design and permit land development projects
- Reviews regulations and standards necessary to carry out project design and permitting work
- Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects
- Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods
- Receives instructions from Senior Engineers as to the general results expected
- Responsible for accuracy and quality of engineering design, reports, and plans and maintaining conformance to budgets, schedules, and RTM standards
- Perform site investigations and construction observation on-site services
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- Willingness to collaborate with cross-functional project teams, including architects and contractors.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and code requirements with assistance from Senior Engineers.
- Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to handle unforeseen challenges and make sound engineering decisions.
- Ability to help senior Engineer in handling complex permitting and regulatory challenges.
- Ability to produce technical reports, drawings, and documentation for projects.
- Proficiency with Civil 3D and other computer-based design tools.
- Exceptional communication skills are required.
- Ability to manage smaller project schedules, budgets, and resources.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, manage client relationships, and understand their needs.
- Ability to assist the project team with the estimation and scheduling of project design tasks.
- EIT certification
- Some exposure to fieldwork, site visits, and construction sites.
- Familiarity with surveying and data collection.
