Chief Helicopter Pilot partners with general aviation management to establish and implement operating policies and procedures for helicopter pilots. Ensures flights are operated in compliance with all applicable FAA regulations. Being a Chief Helicopter Pilot schedules flight personnel, maintenance and maintains flight records. Assumes flight duty. Additionally, Chief Helicopter Pilot has all required licenses and meets flying time requirements. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Commercial Pilot license for helicopters - CPL(H). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Chief Helicopter Pilot manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Helicopter Pilot typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Chief Pilot– Responsibilities and Priorities

    Salary: $100k Relocation


    The Chief Pilot for Kamaka Air has specific roles, responsibilities, and priorities tailored to the unique operational requirements and regulatory framework of the air freight industry.

    1.    Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with all regulations set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for Part 135 or Part 121 flight operations.
    • Must meet the experience requirements of FAR 119.71
    • Maintains proficiency as Pilot-in-Command and Check Airman.

    2.    Flight Operations Management:

    • Reports to Director of Operations
    • Advises DO of all flight crew requirements including training, operations, and compliance.
    • Assists DO in formulating and implementing flight crew training manuals, standard operating procedures, and policies.
    • The Chief Pilot will effectively plan, organize, and manage the flight operations, and lead the flight crew team.
    • Prepares and maintains proficiency records, pilot files, flight schedules, duty time records, reports, and correspondence pertaining to flight operations activities.
    • Monitor flight crew scheduling, duty times, flight time limitations and rest requirements to ensure compliance with FAA regulations to meet legal requirements and maintain safe operations.
    • Ensures that all flight crew personnel are certified and supervised according to the requirements specified in the FAR.

    3.    Safety Management:

    • Implement a safety management system (SMS) to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks.
    • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and evaluations to maintain a safe operating environment.
    • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.




    4.    Training and Development:

    • Develop and implement training programs for flight crew, ground staff, and operational personnel to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
    • Provide recurrent training on safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and operational policies.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, learning and professional development within the operations team.

    5.    Operational Efficiency and Cost Management:

    • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize resource utilization.
    • Analyze operational performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for optimization.
    • Implement process improvements, automation solutions, and technology enhancements to streamline operations and enhance productivity.

    In prioritizing these responsibilities, the Chief Pilot must ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of air freight operations while delivering high-quality service to customers. Effective leadership, communication, and collaboration with cross-functional teams are essential for achieving operational excellence and driving business success in the competitive air freight industry.
