    Purpose of Position

    The Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (AVC-AA) serves as a key advisor and partner to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (EVC) and UT institutions on academic programs and policy and faculty affairs matters. This position works with UT institutions on the academic programs and credentials; faculty issues around annual reviews and promotion and tenure; state and federal accreditation; among other tasks. This position will also serve as the EVC's main liaison to the UT System Faculty Advisory Council and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

    Essential Functions
    • Oversees the review of proposals for new certificate and degree programs; changes to existing degree programs; proposals for new departments, schools, and colleges; and changes to an institution's undergraduate and graduate admissions policies.
    • Oversees and leads the Texas Credentials for the Future and other initiatives designed to better align academic programs with the evolving needs of the workforce.
    • Leads the System-level review of promotion and tenure recommendations from the academic institutions that the Board of Regents considers annually.
    • Leads faculty engagement and success initiatives and serves as the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs' liaison to the UT System Faculty Advisory Council.
    • Collaborate with institutional academic administrators on academic policies and strategies to advance institutional goals.
    • Advise institutional stakeholders on matters related to curricula and program quality.
    • Monitor the higher education landscape and identify new and emerging trends for System-wide implementation or awareness.
    • Advises and consults with the Chancellor and Executive Vice Chancellors on issues related to academic and faculty affairs related matters.
    • Develop briefings, presentations, and oral or written reports, as requested.
    • Serves as the Office of Academic Affairs liaison to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and assists institutional stakeholders in troubleshooting and resolving issues.
    • Serves as the Office of Academic Affairs liaison to accrediting bodies and assists institutional stakeholders in troubleshooting and resolving issues.
    • Collaborate with the Office of Government Affairs on Legislative issues related to issues on issues and policies related to academic and faculty matters (e.g., Interim charges, bill analysis, etc.)
    • Participate in and lead OAA- and system-wide initiatives, ad-hoc committees and task forces as directed by the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Broad and deep knowledge of higher education policy and trends, academic program quality, and academic and faculty affairs.
    • Ability to collaborate with the different stakeholder groups at UT institutions and across the system.
    • Demonstrated ability to research, compile, analyze, and interpret information and data.
    • Familiarity with policy formation and implementation, preferably in a university setting.
    • Verbal and written communication skills at a high degree of proficiency.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with multiple, sometimes changing priorities.
    • Ability to meet frequent and changing deadlines and work independently an as part of a team.
    • Excellent time management and multitasking skills, including the ability to take initiative and prioritize duties.
    Required Qualifications
    • Master's degree or equivalent
    • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in developing and/or overseeing academic programs or academic/faculty affairs.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • PhD degree
    • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in developing and/or overseeing academic programs or academic/faculty affairs, preferably in a leadership capacity;
    • Experience working with executives.
    • Experience working within higher education in Texas.
    Working Conditions
    • May work around standard office conditions.
    • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
    • Requires occasional evening or weekend hours

    Additional Information

    The standard retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. However, the incumbent of this position may elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

    A background check will be conducted on applicants under final consideration. Background checks are conducted by third-party vendors.
