Outdoor Camera Technician - Hawaii

  • Summary:
    As an Outdoor Network Camera Technician, you will work as a trained and skilled contributor to our Field Operations team, with a primary focus on building and maintaining our camera network. In this position, you will be expected to regularly pivot between physical, technical, and administrative work while also training others in your strengths and learning from the strengths of others. Any needed specialization skills that you may bring will also be validated and put into practice as needed.
    Additional information:
    • Work is performed almost entirely outdoors, working at height in a variety of inclement weather conditions year-round.
    • This position will be assigned a 4/10’s alternate workweek schedule working either Mon-Thu or Tue-Fri.
    • This is a very physical job that at times will require intense physical effort, including tower climbing.
    • You will be expected to work some overtime on a regular basis, and significant overtime on occasion.
    • There can be a significant amount of time spent driving, sometimes requiring several days in a row out-of-town.
    • This is a great position to contribute and utilize existing construction or tower/climbing skills.
    Minimum Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Support the overall functions of the HECO team in alignment with the Company’s core values and strategies.
    • Progressively and consistently train to develop skills related to the ongoing work of the Field Operations Department.
    • Access, configure, and troubleshoot technology including network access points, microwave links, routers, and other devices.
    • Respond to network outages and issues, providing troubleshooting and repair response.
    • Provide necessary notes, documentation, and pictures for assigned/dispatched jobs.
    • Respond to critical emergency tickets outside of regular operating hours.
    • Show up to work on time and consistently ready to work with a sense of urgency.
    • Work with a positive attitude and a willingness to work in a positive manner to resolve situations if they turn negative.
    • Follow company procedures, policies, and safety guidelines, including government regulations.
    • Communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically with other people as required.
    • Travel to service out-of-town locations occasionally, as needed.
    • Work with powered and non-powered hand tools and equipment.
    • Safely and effectively operate motor vehicles, and 4x4 trucks.
    • Flying by company helicopter on occasion to access remote communication sites.
    • Install, climb, and maintain communication towers and structures up to 300 feet in height.
    • Climb ladders and as needed.
    • Train and provide rescue assistance for work-at-height personnel.
    • Train and develop skillset consistently.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Requirements:
    • Punctual attendance – must have reliable transportation and be able to regularly show up on time.
    • Must be able to work with a sense of urgency on a consistent basis.
    • Must maintain a maximum weight of 250 lbs. or less for proper fit and use of climbing gear and necessary safety equipment.
    • 5 years of driving experience (3 years may be considered with the right combination of experience).
    • Must be insurable under our company policies with a clean driving record (no more than 1 point, no DUI’s, and no at-fault accidents).
    • Ability to remain well-organized in an outdoor non-office environment.
    • Basic networking knowledge/experience - IP Addresses, Routers, Gateways, DNS, etc.
    • Experience being active outdoors with a desire to work in all types of weather, including extreme heat and cold.
    • No fear of heights, driving, or flying.
    Compensation:
    We typically hire at $30.00 per hour with a skills-based assessment within the first 3-6 months. Starting compensation range is $30.00 to $33.00 per hour for a new technician. Hiring pay above $33.00 per hour may require qualification with additional skills evaluation. Prevailing Wage rates will be paid while working on site at qualifying jobs.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Lift up to 58 lbs. from ground level to above head level.
    • Frequently sitting(driving) and walking (up to 6 hours at a time).
    • Bend, stoop, kneel for 25-35 minutes at a time.
    • Stand, bend, and twist (neck & waist), climb, kneel, squat constantly throughout the day.
    • Grasping (simple & power), pushing and pulling with both hands.
    • Able to climb and work on towers and other structures up to 300' for extended periods of time while utilizing fall protection systems.
    • Frequent to constant reaching, both above and below shoulder level.
    The pay range for this role is:
