Business Process Optimization Director manages teams that study and develop optimization changes to an organization's business processes to improve operational efficiencies, quality, service, and profitability. Conducts research on best practices and industry trends for the business. Being a Business Process Optimization Director oversees the in-depth analysis of existing workflows. Utilizes flowcharts and process maps to define existing processes and identify areas needing improvement. Additionally, Business Process Optimization Director engages and organizes subject matter experts and cross-functional groups to collect inputs. Implements the tools required to collect and measure relevant data, identify key performance indicators (KPI), and produce a data-driven analysis of critical functions. Introduces new business processes to the organization and produces documentation, tools, and training to support adoption. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Business Process Optimization Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Business Process Optimization Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opening for a Tech Services – Process Optimization Group – Process Project Engineer at its refinery located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This position is part of an Engineering Technical Ladder with multiple levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications. We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented Process Engineer to provide technical support for the site and to support new project development and implementation. This includes identifying short- and long-term process changes to improve unit(s) profitability and optimize efficiency. This position will be based out of Marathon Petroleum’s Salt Lake City Refinery in Salt Lake City, UT. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop new capital projects with foresight beyond existing assets. Develop project justification and submittals for annual capital budget. Lead refinery energy coordination studies and projects. Track KPIs to optimize refinery energy and water usage. Lead development of projects including PFDs, P&IDs, PDBs, and PSM activities from project Conceptual through Detailed Engineering and Commissioning. Mentor Unit Support Engineers and support the Tech Service group in TAR activities and unplanned emergencies. Provide troubleshooting and optimization assistance to Tech service engineers and Area Teams. Participates in identification of short- and long-term process changes to improve unit(s) profitability and optimize efficiency. Conducts process operations analysis and economic evaluation using simulation software. Must have physical ability to perform all essential job duties and work extended hours, including nights and weekends in process operations environment. Work may be conducted during periods of inclement weather. Must have physical ability to access all areas of the refinery including use of stairs and/or ladders to inspect critical process and mechanical equipment. Must be available to respond to upset conditions during off-hours. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum (Required) Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (or above) in chemical engineering from an accredited institution. Must be authorized to work in the US without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future A valid driver’s license is required Preferred Qualifications 6-15 years of post-degree engineering experience in a refinery or chemical plant with some project experience. Proficiencies: Process simulation (HYSIS, PetroSim, etc), technical writing, PSM knowledge, and a strong understanding of refinery economics and project justification This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level.
