Business Office Director - Healthcare directs the day to day activities of a hospital's business office. Responsible for admitting and registration, patient billing and collection, third-party payer relations, and preparation of insurance claims. Being a Business Office Director - Healthcare administers policies and procedures and ensures all office activities comply with hospital standards and government regulations. Ensures that patient financial matters are handled in an efficient manner. Additionally, Business Office Director - Healthcare requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Business Office Director - Healthcare manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Definition:        The Business Manager is responsible for all budgeting, payroll, and accounting operations within the district

     

    Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration with emphasis in accounting or equivalent training and experience.
    2. Experience in school finance.
    3. Experience in a supervisory capacity.
    4. Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Specialized Data Systems or comparable software.
    5. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, parents, staff and community.
    6. Knowledge of governmental accounting procedures, fund accounting and school budgeting procedures preferred.
    7. Knowledge of school financial reporting preferred.
    8. Knowledge of real estate, property and employee insurance practice preferred.
    9. Organizational skills to complete tasks timely and responsibly.

    Job Goals:

    1. Administer the business affairs of the district in such a manner as to provide the best possible educational services with the financial and food service resources available.
    2. Assist the superintendent in the development, administration and evaluation of the business services program of the district.

    Responsibilities and Duties::

    1. Responsible to the superintendent of schools and functions in a collaborative manner with the superintendent and the School Board to provide for the success of all students.
    2. Supervises the management of the financial affairs of the schools at the district level, building level, special programs budget level.
    3. Carries out appropriate reporting and transmissions to the state.
    4. Assumes responsibility for the budget development and long-range financial planning.
    5. Establishes and supervises accounting and purchasing programs adequate to record in detail all money, purchase card transactions, and resource acquisitions.
    6. Administers and manages accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, purchasing, accounts receivable, grants, reconciliation of bank statements and fixed assets.
    7. Supervises the collection, safekeeping, and distribution of all funds.
    8. Invests district funds for the best possible interest rate and in such a manner as to have such funds available when needed.
    9. Initiates suggestions and plans periodically for improvement in business practices in the district.
    10. Collaborates with the superintendent, administrators, and directors of transportation, technology, human resources, grants, facilities, and maintenance coordinating the district’s supporting services.
    11. Responsible for effectively maintaining account integrity as new programs are added and new grants received and formulate reporting policies as necessary
    12. Ensures the district remains in compliance with all financial federal regulations, state statures and local ordinances.
    13. Responsible to produce the district mill levy calculation to the county and the state.
    14. Ensure the district charter school is in compliance with the district contract.
    15. Administers a budget control system for the district.
    16. Acts as advisor to the superintendent on all questions relating to the business and financial affairs of the district.
    17. Arranges and participates in the internal auditing of all school accounts.
    18. Assists the superintendent with interpreting the financial concerns of the district to the school board and internal and external community.
    19. Prepare annual W-2s and 1099-MISC forms.
    20. Prepare and submit all required tax filings and quarterly reports with the federal, state and local governments as well as with PERA.
    21. Distributes monthly financial reports to the Board of Education as required by state statute.
    22. Participates with the negotiation team for the Board of Education.
    23. Maintain transparency documentation on website.
    24. Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

     

    Terms of Employment:

    1. Twelve-month employee with vacations according to policy.
    2. Salary and benefits as per Board policy.

     

    Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board policy and procedures for evaluation.
